A PS3-era game has returned with a new release on PS5, and for some PlayStation fans, the PS5 re-release is free to download. The PlayStation game in question hails specifically from 2012. Those that were around and playing video games in the year the world was supposed to end according to the Maya Calendar, will remember releases such as Mass Effect 3, Far Cry 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, The Walking Dead from Telltale Games, Dishonored, Borderlands 2, Journey, Mark of the Ninja, Fire Emblem Awakening, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Hitman: Absolution, Max Payne 3, Fez, Persona 4 Golden, Sleeping Dogs, Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed 3, Dragon’s Dogma, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Spec Ops: The Line, Hotline Miami, and of course Call of Duty Black Ops 2.

These are the biggest and/or best games of 2012, but it is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of releases. There were plenty more video games released in 2012. Leading this pack of games is no doubt Darksiders 2. At the time of its release, the sequel to 2010’s Darksiders was notably one of the most expensive games ever made. Its $50 million budget is humble and nothing compared to the hundreds of millions often spent on AAA game development, however, at the time it was a lot.

Unfortunately, for developer Vigil Games and publisher THQ, it didn’t quite deliver on the game’s lofty ambitions. It sold appreciably and returned on Metacritic with a solid 84, but both were a little low considering the game’s budget. Nonetheless, it did well enough to get a follow up, Darksiders 3, in 2018.

It is not this original PS3, 2012 version that has returned with a new release on PS5, but the PS4 version of the game that was released in 2015 under the name Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition. Those that don’t own this PS4 version, will need to fork over $30 to buy the game on PS5. Those who do own the PS4 version though are getting this new PS5 release for free.

What does the new PS5 version come with? Well, according to THQ Nodric, it adds to the game 4K resolution, ray tracing, enhanced shadows and lighting, quicker load times, and haptic feedback for the DualSense to take advantage of.

The first PS5 Black Friday deals have leaked early, giving PlayStation fans an idea of what to expect from Sony next month. Unfortunately, none of the leaked deals include PS5 Pro, which is set to release on November 7. In other words, it will release in time for it to be included in Black Friday deals, but whether it will be included, remains to be seen. If there are PS5 Pro Black Friday deals, it will probably come from retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, or Target rather than Sony itself, but for now nothing has even leaked for PS5 Pro. A couple Black Friday bundles for the PS5 have though.

As for the leak, it comes the way of billbil-kun, one of the most reliable leakers in the industry, especially when it comes to PlayStation. In other words, there is little to doubt the validity of the leak, but at the moment, it is a leak. This means everything below should be taken with a grain of salt.

According to the leak, Sony is preparing two PS5 bundles. One of these bundles include the disc version of the PS5, the other the digital version of the PS5. The former is set to priced at $374.99, while the latter $424.99. These bundles are set to be made available on November 22, and be available well through Cyber Monday. After this, the pair will revert to $449.99 and $499.99, respectively.

What do the bundles include? Well, they appear to be targeted at Fortnite fans because both will include the Fortnite Cobalt Star bundle, which includes eight exclusive Fortnite skins that won’t be available in any other capacity. The value of these skins is said to be 5,000 V-Bucks. On top of this, buyers will get 1,000 V-Bucks to spend how they seem fit.

PlayStation still making Fortnite PS5 bundles suggests there are many Fortnite players still on PS4 it is looking to tempt to PS5, otherwise you probably wouldn’t be making these bundles and would rather pair new releases with PS5 consoles. And these options will probably exist as well, but it is clear PlayStation is targeting Fortnite players this holiday season, assuming this leak is true at least.

Meanwhile, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. What PS5 games and hardware are you hoping to pick up for cheap during Black Friday this year?

Marvel’s Wolverine has been basically nonexistent in the news cycle ever since PlayStation-owned developer Insomniac Games announced it over three years ago, but the drought of information may be ending soon. According to an insider who claims to have knowledge of the situation, PlayStation may be “gearing up” to show off more of Marvel’s Wolverine by the end of the year. It’s unclear, however, what event might host a Marvel’s Wolverine appearance and whether or not it’ll be a PlayStation event like a State of Play or a third-party event like The Game Awards.

Twitter user Kurakasis is the insider responsible for this new Marvel’s Wolverine tease, a leaker who’s got a pretty good track record as far as leaks go, particularly when it comes to PlayStation projects. Kurakasis said over on Twitter that the prediction of Marvel’s Wolverine making an appearance soon is a result of a “little digging.”

“From my little digging, it looks like Sony is gearing up to show off some new stuff from Marvel’s Wolverine,” the insider said. “It’s hard for me to determine when it’ll happen, but I’m guessing it’ll be this year—either at TGA or at some unannounced, super-secret event.”

One of the only looks we’ve gotten at Marvel’s Wolverine.

So, when might Marvel’s Wolverine make an appearance if it is to be shown off again by the end of the year? Going three whole years without seeing anything from the game would feel pretty bad for Wolverine fans and those who follow Insomniac Games no matter if it’s Spider-Man or something else they’re working on, so it doesn’t seem out of the question to expect an update this year. There is a Marvel Games “Special Presentation” planned for today during New York Comic-Con, though it’d be quite hopeful to expect something from that event.

Beyond this month, there’s speculation that PlayStation will hold at least one more State of Play this year — perhaps an event in December to cap off PlayStation’s 30th anniversary celebrations — but PlayStation of course hasn’t announced anything of the sort. If nothing else, there’s always The Game Awards which is returning in December, too, and could host a Marvel’s Wolverine trailer or announcement.

Since it was revealed Marvel’s Wolverine has consisted of exactly one teaser trailer released by PlayStation as well as two screenshots that show Wolverine from behind sitting at a bar and another shown above that has him with his iconic claws out. We don’t know who’s voicing him yet nor do we know how closely he’ll resemble his on-screen version played by Hugh Jackman, though one would expect he’d at least resemble Jackman a bit given that that’s the only portrayal of Wolverine most people are familiar with.

Leaks, however, are a different story. Marvel’s Wolverine was one of several games that leaked out early as a result of a hack targeting Insomniac Games. Gameplay clips and other looks at the game surfaced online, though most who saw those were in agreement that they probably didn’t accurately portray parts of the game since they were so early and unfinished. It’s possible those leaks may have played a part in us going so long without Marvel’s Wolverine news as well.

Marvel’s Wolverine is coming to the PlayStation 5 (not the PlayStation 4) but does not yet have a release date.

Sony has revealed that a whopping 18 PS5 and PS4 games will be taken off of PlayStation Plus in November 2024. As of today, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers have been given a slew of new titles on the Game Catalog to play. Some of the biggest additions on this front include Dead Island 2, Two Point Campus, Gris, and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, among many others. Of course, these new arrivals aren’t going to eventually come without some losses one month from now.

Spotted on the “Last Chance to Play” section of PS Plus today, a new group of 18 games has appeared. These 18 titles are all going to depart from PS Plus in the middle of November and include heavy-hitters like Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — Definitive Edition, The Sims 4: City Living, and nearly the entire Kingdom Hearts saga. This is one of the most extensive lineups we’ve seen depart from the PS Plus Game Catalog at a single time and, quality-wise, will definitely bring the service down just a bit.

Here’s the full list of games that will be departing PlayStation Plus next month:

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — Definitive Edition (PS5, PS4)
  • Red Dead Redemption II (PS4)
  • The Sims 4: City Living (PS4)
  • Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4)
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxiboost On (PS4)
  • Superliminal (PS5, PS4)
  • Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (PS5, PS4)
  • Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series (PS5, PS4)
  • Teardown (PS5)
  • Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix (PS4)
  • Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (PS4)
  • Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4)
  • Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (PS4)
  • Chorus (PS5, PS4)
  • What Remains of Edith Finch (PS5, PS4)
  • Overcooked 2 (PS4)
  • Blasphemous (PS4)
  • Moving Out (PS4)

As for the date on which all of these PS5 and PS4 games will be vanishing from PS Plus, they should be exiting on the same day that the service gets its new wave of Extra and Premium titles. Assuming that PlayStation continues with its standard operating procedure, this would indicate that all of these games will be gone on November 18th. With this in mind, you have from now until then to play any of these titles for yourself before they exit.

How do you feel about these upcoming PS Plus games that are soon leaving the Game Catalog? And will you look to play anything here before it’s gone? Let me know for yourself over on social media at @MooreMan12.

PlayStation has announced that it’s going on tour in a new concert series that will take place across 2025 and 2026. While some of PlayStation’s biggest franchises like God of War, The Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima are praised for their stories and gameplay, they also happen to each contain some memorable soundtracks that fans continue to adore. Now, PlayStation has put together a new live concert that will better highlight these songs in a way that has never been done before.

Detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed that it has teamed up with RoadCo Entertainment, and GEA Live to create “a groundbreaking live music event” that will feature songs from a variety of PlayStation games. Outside of featuring music, PlayStation: The Concert is said to contain “state-of-the-art production” and “cutting-edge visuals” that will be shown in tandem with the music. To this point, only four PlayStation franchises have been confirmed to be featured in the concert series, most of which have been the brand’s most popular across the PS4 and PS5 generations.

“PlayStation: The Concert transports fans into the epic worlds of God of War, The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, and Horizon franchises amongst many others that reflect our 30 years of making games that have not only captivated players but are celebrated for their breathtaking and immersive soundtracks too,” says PlayStation’s description of the event. “With innovative technology and world-class production, fans will experience a stunning fusion of multi-layered visuals, immersive surround sound, and an all-star ensemble blending classical and modern instruments. The legendary scores from composers like Gustavo Santaolalla (The Last of Us), Joris De Man (Horizon), Ilan Eshkeri (Ghost of Tsushima), and Bear McCreary (God of War) will reach new heights, offering fans a unique, deeply immersive live concert experience. “

As for the tour dates, PlayStation has announced that its new concert will debut in April 2025 in Dublin, Ireland. From here, the concert series will tour across Europe in cities that include London, Paris, Belgium, Berlin, Zurich, Prague, and Copenhagen, just to name a few. PlayStation plans to visit over 200 cities in total with this concert that will stretch through 2026.

For now, only European tour destinations have been announced, with the United States and other regions to follow at a later date. Tickets for these European dates will begin going on sale tomorrow, October 16th, at 7:00am PT. Those interested can learn more about how to purchase tickets at PlayStation’s official concert website right here.

A major retailer has started to cancel recent pre-orders that customers made for the PS5 30th Anniversary console. Near the end of September, Sony began selling its 30th Anniversary PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro bundle, PS Portal, and DualSense controllers via its PlayStation Direct website. This was followed by a wider release of the 30th Anniversary lineup (other than the PS5 Pro) at other retail chains around the globe. Now, one storefront in the UK has had to cancel a number of its own orders after a major issue with its sale of the hardware.

Within the past day, UK retailer Argos began canceling pre-orders for the PS5 Slim 30th Anniversary console. Upon going live this past week on October 10th, Argos quickly sold out of its stock of the highly-limited PS5. However, in the time since, some Argos customers have started to receive emails informing them that their orders have now been canceled. Argos itself revealed that the reason for this was because the storefront allotted more pre-orders to customers than stock it had of the PS5 30th Anniversary console. As a result, some orders had to be scrapped completely.

“We saw huge demand for the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Limited Edition console and unfortunately had to cancel some orders, after they were processed incorrectly,” a representative from Argos told IGN. “We have contacted the customers affected to tell them how sorry we are for the disappointment this has caused and confirm they will receive a full refund.”

This move is a particularly disappointing one given how exclusive the PS5 30th Anniversary console is. Based on what we currently know, there aren’t going to be any additional restocks or sales for the 30th Anniversary PS5 and its accessories in the weeks and months ahead. While Sony could always change its mind on this front given how high the demand has been, those who have lost their pre-orders at Argos might now not be able to get the PS5 Slim whatsoever.

What’s even worse is that many other retailers didn’t fare much better than Argos. While other storefronts haven’t had to resort to canceling PS5 orders outright, the purchasing process at chains like Walmart, Best Buy, and even PlayStation Direct was quite frustrating, to say the least. Hopefully, more opportunities to buy all of this PlayStation hardware will come in the future so that those who have been left out can have a chance to snag this 30th Anniversary collection for themselves.

PlayStation has removed a banned PS5 game — also available on PS4 — after it was accidentally permitted to release on the PlayStation Store. More than this, it has gone ahead and removed the PS5/PS4 game from the library of any PS5/PS4 user who purchased the game, providing refunds in the process. What is odd about the development is that it took months for this to happen. The game in question has been available for months, but Sony is only now getting around to removing any trace of the game from PSN. What took so long, is unclear.

Thankfully, if you are in the United States or many other regions of the world — where this PS5/PS4 game is available — you don’t have anything to worry about. The game has been not been completely banned from PSN, just banned from PSN in certain parts of the world. One of these parts of the world is Australia. Despite this, it has been available to purchase on Australian PSN for months. Not anymore though.

Any Australian PSN user who recently noticed that Hotline Miami 2 was no longer in their library, it is because it was never supposed to be there in the first place. And that is because it was never rated for release in Australia. This is because it was never submitted for rating in the region given the area’s reputation for restricting, limiting, and banning games that depict sexual content, content with drugs, or over-the-top violent content. Also because the Australian rating board previous restricted the game’s release on Nintendo Switch.

Hotline Miami 2 has all three of the content types above to the max. To this end, one scene, in particular, that depicts sexual assault caused quite the controversy when the game was originally released, and no doubt played a major role in its restriction/limiting/banning in certain parts of the world.

PlayStation has not offered any insight into how the game got on Australian PSN, but it is not the first game to squeak pass the certification team over at Sony. What it has done has begun to alert PS5 and PS4 users that had it in their library that it is now gone, with a refund in its place.

For those unfamiliar with Hotline Miami 2 — or Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number as it is fully titled — is a 2015 game and sequel to the popular 2012 game, Hotline Miami. It was developed by Dennaton Games and published by Devolver Digital.

PlayStation Plus members are going to want to make sure they don’t make a key error that could lock them out of a previous free game that was part of the service. Since Sony added the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers back in 2022, there have been some major issues tied to licensing that users have started to come across. Namely, games that are part of both the Game Catalog associated with PS Plus Extra and have also been free monthly titles in the past can have their license permissions switched, which can result in subscribers losing access in certain situations. Now, this is in danger of happening once again with a PlayStation game that will soon be delisted.

Recently, PlayStation announced that it would be removing LittleBigPlanet 3 from sale later this month on the PS Store. The removal is set to happen on October 31st and follows a prolonged period in which the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 have been down. Previously, LBP 3 was a monthly free game on PS Plus back in February 2017, which is likely how many PlayStation users added it to their own digital library. If you were one of these people, though, you’ll want to make sure you don’t lose access to the title once it’s delisted by ignoring the version on the Game Catalog.

In addition to being a monthly free game, LittleBigPlanet 3 has also been part of the PS Plus Game Catalog for quite some time. Compared to monthly free games, though, any titles that PS Plus users download through the Game Catalog are then looked upon as rentals rather than games that are outright owned. This means that once these games exit the PS Plus Game Catalog, which will be happening with LittleBigPlanet 3 this coming week, they’ll no longer be accessible.

The problem at the center of all of this is that any games downloaded via the Game Catalog can override previous licenses that PS Plus users might have already had. So if you already have the license of the the PS Plus version of LittleBigPlanet 3 that was up for grabs in February 2017, DO NOT try to download the iteration that’s listed on the Game Catalog. Doing so will completely alter the former license and you’ll see LittleBigPlanet 3 deleted from your PlayStation digital library in the weeks ahead.

Again, this is a confusing issue and it’s one that Sony hasn’t really drawn any attention to. Despite ongoing complaints from fans, it doesn’t look like any of the problems here will be resolved in the near future for one reason or another. As such, we’re simply trying to point out the issue so that you don’t lose the ability to play LittleBigPlanet 3 in the future.

PS5 AAA games are as cheap as $4.49 in a new PlayStation Store sale that is available for a limited time. Coupling this, also on the PlayStation Store, there are even more AAA PS4 games currently on sale for less than $10. These PS4 games do no have a native PS5 version, but they are playable on PS5 via backward compatibility.

The cheapest of the bunch is Metro Exodus, the latest installment in the long-running Metro series. Normally, on PS5, it costs $29.99, but right now it is only $4.49. Other games and series featured include: Mortal Kombat, Boderlands, Mass Effect, The Witcher, Yakuza, Star Wars, South Park, Tomb Raider, Lord of the Rings, Mafia, Assassin’s Creed, One Piece, Battlefield, Death Stranding, and Ghost Recon.

Some of these PS5 deals — and PS4 deals — are the cheapest said game has ever been available, not just on the PlayStation Store, but across any retailer. Meanwhile, some of these PS5 games and PS4 games have been this cheap before. Whatever the case, what they all have in common is they are dirt cheap right now. And who knows when they will be this cheap again.

A rare discount of PlayStation Plus is being offered by Sony, but not to everyone. Since Sony raised the monthly cost of PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium in 2023, price drops for the service have basically been nonexistent. Part of this is due to the fact that many retailers that once sold PS Plus subscriptions as physical cards now no longer do so, which allows Sony to have more control over the service’s pricing. Fortunately, one new promotion is in swing for October 2024, but it’s seemingly happening at random for those in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Spotted on PlayStation’s official website, it is said that a new sale on PS Plus is happening from October 8th through October 22nd. The deal will allow users to subscribe to any tier of the platform at 20% off of its normal value. This discount can then be applied to any of the three or 12-month versions of PS Plus at the Essential, Extra, or Premium levels, which ends up being quite a deal for those looking to get in at the higher tiers.

The issue with this sale of PS Plus is that it’s not exactly clear who it’s being given to. The fine print at the bottom of the promotion says that it’s “by invite only,” which would suggest that Sony is emailing offers to those who qualify. This is something that Sony has done in the past with PS Plus and wouldn’t be shocking to see happen once again.

Still, how exactly one would qualify to receive an email like this isn’t explained. The PS Plus advertisement itself says that this sale is for those looking to “join PlayStation Plus by October 22”. The implication here is that any current PS Plus subscribers are disqualified as they’re already enrolled in the platform. This is a bummer as those who have been loyal to PlayStation and PS Plus are the ones you would think Sony would want to reward with a deal.

With so many questions surrounding this PlayStation Plus promotion, there’s very little that can be done to ensure you’ll be invited to take part. The best you can do is keep an eye on your email and see if Sony sends an offer your way in the coming days. And if you’re already a member, well, you seem to simply be out of luck this time. Hopefully, Sony can make its next PS Plus sale widely available to all PlayStation users.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has tons of different finishers for Peter Parker and Miles Morales to utilize depending on what kind of enemy they’re fighting, but based on what’s been seen in some new gameplay pieced together from unused code, it appears as though there was another finisher feature that didn’t make the cut. Spider-Man 2 players discovered recently that there was apparently at one point work being done so that Spider-Man could pull off double finishers to take out two enemies at once, but the feature never made the cut and isn’t present at all in the full game.

The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay showing off double finishers made its way to the subreddit for PlayStation’s Spider-Man games with a brief clip showing Peter Parker taking on a couple of enemies. The usual prompt appears for Spider-Man to take down an enemy in a stylish way with a finisher, but instead of just slamming one baddie into the ground while everyone else watches, he takes on two at once and launches one into the other to remove them both from the fight.

After that double finisher, two more are shown off where Spider-Man kicks two assailants at the same time and then uses his webs to take down two more. It’s a small sample size to go off of, but between webs, kicks, and acrobatics, those three double finishers paint a decent picture of what could’ve been had the feature been added to the game.

Aside from the fact that the enemies look entirely unfinished, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players pointed out that parts of the double finishers look a bit jittery which makes sense given that the feature was never fully implemented in the game. The consensus, however, was that this would’ve been a great feature to see added to the full game had it not been cut.

“Why get rid of this???” the most upvoted comment in the thread said.

It’s a fair question, but as others explained, having double finishers in the game would’ve led to many more variables involving where the enemies were placed. As we saw towards the end of the clip, enemies typically just prefer to run at Spider-Man unless they’re using ranged weapons of some kind, so getting them near him wouldn’t have been the issue. Different types of enemies be they normal grunts, heavier enemies, or agile ones often have different finishers associated with their unique types, however, so having two different types of foes up against one another might’ve made double finishers a bit more complicated.

Had Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 actually implemented this feature, it likely would’ve been something in the Spider-Man skill trees that players had to unlock before using it. Though it didn’t make the cut here, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players were hopeful that it could be added in whatever Spider-Man game comes next from Insomniac Games.

Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles is getting new life with a re-release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X on January 23, 2025. The new release is an enhanced version of the original 2000 Star Wars game of the same name.

For those that don’t know: Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles was released on the PS1, then the Sega Dreamcast and Game Boy Advance, back in 2000 via LucasArts. Upon release, it didn’t review that well, nor did it hang with some of the Star Wars commercial hits of this tine. Yet, Aspyr clearly thinks there is enough interest to re-release it because that is exactly what it is doing, making it the latest Star Wars re-release from the developer.

“Take back the Theed Palace in this fast and furious lightsaber action game,” reads an official blurb about the game. “You will have the power of the Force and your trusty lightsaber to help you ward off legions of battle droids, destroyer droids, assassins, and other creatures from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”

The game’s official description continues: “Play as Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon, Adi Gallia, or Qui-Gon Jinn facing off against droids and other familiar foes from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Or, play as one of the previously locked characters such as Darth Maul, Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala, Ki-Adi Mundi, and the Battle Droid, now available from the start!”

The re-release will include two-player couch co-op and a new game plus mode. Meanwhile, players will have the option to use new, modern controls or use the classic controls.

A PlayStation 5 DualSense controller was recently used to perform surgery from a remote location. As we’ve seen on multiple occasions in the past, video game controllers can often be used for purposes other than playing games. This was perhaps most prominently seen this past year with the Titan submersible, which featured steering controls in the form of a Logitech PC controller. Now, PlayStation’s current gamepad of choice has been used in a much more complicated operation that was nearly 6,000 miles away.

Reported by Fox (via PlayStation Lifestyle) recently, surgeons in Zurich, Switzerland were able to use a PS5 controller to conduct an endoscopy on a pig that resided in Hong Kong. Those in Zurich were able to view the operation on a live video feed and use the PlayStation controller at hand to steer the endoscope. One version of this operation saw the surgeons using a PlayStation Move controller for the PS3, while others have been done with the PS5’s DualSense. As for the reason behind using a PlayStation controller, it’s said to give surgeons more “precise navigation”, especially when it comes to complex movements.

Likely the biggest issue with doing surgery in this manner is accounting for latency. Since the surgeons in Switzerland were so far away from where the surgery itself was being done, this test had to keep latency under 300 milliseconds. It’s said that this response time is equal to what would be expected in traditional surgery and would allow for quick adjustments to be made if needed.

Moving forward, it seems like this could become more of a routine thing that is done in the medical field. There are still numerous hurdles to account for with procedures like this and it doesn’t seem like it has reached the point where it would be done on a human patient. Still, in the years to come, it could be far more routine to see a PlayStation, Xbox, or any other video game controller used in a surgical manner like this.

Sony has revealed the latest round of PS5 games and PS4 games that will be coming to PlayStation Plus for October 2024. Currently, all PS Plus subscribers can snag WWE 2K24, Dead Space, and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus as part of October’s round of “free” titles for the month. Now, those who have the higher tiers of the PlayStation subscription service can expect an injection of 14 more games next week.

Rolling out on October 15th, the latest PlayStation Plus games for Extra and Premium members are headlined by Dead Island 2. Just released this past year, the long-awaited action title will be available for both PS5 and PS4 and is the biggest AAA game included. It will be joined by other titles like Gris, The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me, Two Point Campus, and Ghost Recon Wildlands.

When it comes to the new PS Plus Classics that are joining for October, they feature a little bit of everything. The Last Clockwinder is being added to this tier for those who happen to own a PlayStation VR2 headset, while Dino Crisis will finally be joining PS Plus after having been announced for the service in Sony’s most recent State of Play. The big surprise this month is that of Siren, which is a PS2 game from the creators of the original Silent Hill. Siren was later followed by two sequels but has been on ice since 2008. As a result, perhaps this appearance of the original game on PS Plus could forbode something new happening with the franchise in the future.

You can get a look at the full lineup of new PS Plus games that are arriving soon below.

PlayStation Plus Extra Games

  • Dead Island 2 (PS5, PS4)
  • Two Point Campus (PS5, PS4)
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Devil in Me (PS5, PS4)
  • Gris (PS5, PS4)
  • Return to Monkey Island (PS5)
  • Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed (PS5, PS4)
  • Firefighting Simulator: The Squad (PS5, PS4)
  • Overpass 2 (PS5)

PlayStation is preparing to remove one of its own exclusive games from sale on the PlayStation Store for reasons that haven’t been made clear. From time to time, various games get delisted from the PS Store, Steam, and other digital marketplaces. More often than not, these delistings happen as a result of licensing agreements that have since come to an end, resulting in games no longer being able to be sold. Titles like Minecraft: Story ModeDeadpoolMarvel Ultimate Alliance, and Transformers: War for Cybertron are just a few titles that have gone away in this manner previously. Now, PlayStation is set to make a move of its own in this regard, although its reason for doing so seems to be far different.

Announced in a post on social media today, PlayStation informed fans that  LittleBigPlanet 3 is set to be taken off of the PS Store at the end of October. Released back in 2014 across PS4 and PS3, LittleBigPlanet 3 is the most recent mainline entry in the famed platforming franchise. It was later followed by Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which happened to be more of a traditional 3D platformer when compared to the other LittleBigPlanet titles. In addition to delisting LittleBigPlanet 3 itself, PlayStation also warned that all of the game’s accompanying DLC will be vanishing as well. As for the purpose behind this move, a specific reason was not given.

“After 10 years of playing, creating, and sharing content in LittleBigPlanet 3, the game and our entire range of LittleBigPlanet DLC will be removed from the PlayStation Store on October 31, 2024,” PlayStation said. “Anyone that currently owns or purchases LittleBigPlanet 3 or any LittleBigPlanet DLC before it is delisted for sale, will still be able to access their purchased games and content after its removal.”

“This is a friendly heads-up that anyone in the community or any newcomers [who] still wish to own a digital copy of LittleBigPlanet 3 or any LittleBigPlanet DLC currently available for purchase – this is your last chance to do so!” the message continued. “Thank you for your continued support and understanding.”

Why Is LittleBigPlanet 3 Being Delisted?

littlebigplanet.jpg

The odd part of LittleBigPlanet 3 being taken off of the PlayStation Store is that seemingly has nothing to do with licensing. Since this is an exclusive game directly from PlayStation, it stands to reason that Sony could continue to sell it in perpetuity for as long as it wants. Instead, the delisting likely has more to do with recent issues tied to LBP 3 rather than anything associated with expired licenses.

Earlier this year, LittleBigPlanet 3’s servers were taken offline in an indefinite capacity. In doing so, this eliminated all of the game’s player-created content from being accessible. While some fans hoped that PlayStation would eventually find a solution to problems that had plagued the title, it looks like this won’t be happening as Sony is now just opting to remove LBP 3 from sale as a whole.

This move is particularly heartbreaking as LittleBigPlanet 3 also encompassed all user-created levels that were built on the first two entries in the series as well. By refusing to get the servers back up and running, Sony is essentially killing off one of its most beloved games from the PS3 era. It’s also yet another blow to developer Media Molecule, which pulled the plug on ongoing content for Dreams in 2023.

Even though LittleBigPlanet 3 doesn’t feature any online levels to play, there still is a number of Story Mode levels that can be played either solo or with a friend in couch co-op. This combined with the game’s creation tools still being accessible means that stages can still be built in LittleBigPlanet 3, they’ll just never be uploaded to the internet.

A new, free PlayStation Plus game, with a controversial past has left many PS Plus subscribers across PS4 and PS5 shocked. Video games rarely find themselves at the center of controversy anymore. There was a time where both violent video games, and video games with sexual content, would cause quite the stir, attracting attention from concerned parents, the mainstream media, and even the government. This doesn’t really happen anymore, not in the United States at least, but it did happen with one particular 2017 release.

Back in 2017, many gamers would have been busy with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, PUBG, Super Mario Odyssey, and the other games that headlined the year. What also came out that year though was Doki Doki Literature Club. At first, the visual novel game flew under the radar before blowing up and going viral.

We won’t get into why this happened, and why it was engulfed in controversy, as that would indirectly spoil the game. What can be said, is that not all is what it seems with the game. And many are finding this out because the game is free with all tiers of PlayStation Plus — this means PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, an PS Plus Premium — for the month of October.

For those that have not connected the dots yet, the mystery game is Doki Doki Literature Club. The game has been out for seven years at this point, has been free on Steam the whole time, and had all the aforementioned controversy, yet it seems many PS Plus subscribers had no idea what it is about. This is changing now though.

“Doki Doki is on a whole different level of what the f**k,” reads a post over on the PS Plus Reddit page. “Just wanted to say that this game is definitely not what it comes off as being. The level of what the f**k as my title says is out of this world. I don’t know if it’s a really good game or a fever dream but it’s definitely worth checking out.”

The popularity of the post, as well as a number of comments, echo the sentiment: “Please please please continue to the end,” reads one of these comments. “The payoff is worth it. One of those games that wish I could erase from my memory so I can experience it again. It was a crazy experience. “

Those that decide to check out this game now that it is free via PS Plus, should expect to sink about four to eight hours with it. However, completionists will need closer to 14 hours to see and do everything in the game. Those without PS Plus will need to fork over the usual $14.99 to play the game on PlayStation.

A new rumor is suggesting that PlayStation might be gearing up to release a remastered collection of some of the older entries in the God of War series for modern platforms. Throughout the PlayStation 3 era, Sony opted to remaster nearly every game up until that point in the God of War franchise. Titles like God of WarGod of War IIGod of War: Chains of Olympus, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta were all remastered as part of different bundles and were brought to PS3. In the generation that followed, though, only a remaster of God of War III ended up coming to PS4. Now, it sounds as though PlayStation could be dipping into this back catalog again in the coming year.

As reported by Need4Games, the publication shared new info from an insider called “Lunatic Ignus” who claimed on Discord that multiple God of War remasters are in the works. It was said that this remaster would encompass all of the games from the Greek era of the series. This would include the first three mainline entries, Chains of OlympusGhost of Sparta, and Ascension. The project is said to be in the works primarily at developer Nixxes and will be announced in March of 2025, which is when the series will turn 20 years old. Further details on the collection’s eventual launch were not shared.

Given the strange nature in which this rumor has come about, be sure to take everything that has been claimed here with a major grain of salt. Even though PlayStation has been focusing more heavily on remasters and remakes lately, there’s no guarantee that these older God of War games will be next in line to get the treatment. Still, as arguably PlayStation’s biggest franchise, a remastered collection like this would be a fantastic way of celebrating 20 years of God of War and would surely thrill numerous longtime fans.

How would you feel about many of these older entries in the God of War saga returning on PlayStation 5? Do you think that this is something that PlayStation should focus on, or are you sick of so many remasters? Be sure to share your thoughts with me over on social media at @MooreMan12

A horror game from the PlayStation 4 era that has seen a huge return in popularity recently is part of a sale that will only last for one more day. Since the launch of Alien: Romulus earlier this year, the 2014 survival-horror video game Alien: Isolation has once again been getting played in droves. Now, for those who have been looking to play the title with Halloween drawing near, a new deal should be pounced on before it’s gone.

As of this moment, Alien: Isolation is currently discounted by 85% on the PlayStation Store. Normally retailing for $39.99, the game is now being sold in a digital capacity for $5.99. This represents one of the best discounts for Isolation that has ever been seen in its 10-year lifespan. Better yet, the version of Alien: Isolation that’s being sold here is “The Collection” edition, which comes with additional content not found in the base iteration.

As mentioned, the big thing to note with this sale is that it won’t last long whatsoever. Alien: Isolation is only marked down on the PS Store as part of the “Weekend Offer” promotion that is currently running. As such, this discount will be gone in a little more than a day in the early hours of October 8th. With this in mind, you’ll want to act very quickly if you’re on the fence about picking up Alien: Isolation

To help make up your mind, you can check out a trailer and official synopsis of Alien: Isolation attached below.

Alien: Isolation

“Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance.

As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.”

Nearly a year after releasing, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has matched its lowest price ever on PlayStation 5. For the most part, PlayStation hasn’t discounted the Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel very often outside of some promotions earlier in 2024. Luckily, for those who have been looking to get the game for less than its standard retail value, a new sale is live for a limited period of time.

As of this week, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has seen its price slashed by 29% and is now retailing for $49.99. This deal is live across a number of different retailers including WalmartAmazon, and GameStop. This matches the lowest amount that Spider-Man 2 has ever been sold for both in a digital and physical capacity.

In the months ahead, there’s a good chance that we could see some even better sales for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, it wouldn’t be surprising to see PlayStation include the game in some discounts at various retailers. This is something that PlayStation opted not to do this previous holiday season, likely because Spider-Man 2 had just launched. Still, if you’d prefer not to wait until closer to Christmas to get the game at a better price, this current offer is definitely a good one.

You can learn more about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by checking out the sequel’s official synopsis and launch trailer below.

“Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other and the ones they love, from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat. Explore an expansive Marvel’s New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities, and high-tech gear.

Wield Peter’s symbiote abilities and Miles’ explosive bio-electric powers in battle against new and iconic Marvel Super Villains – including an original take on a symbiote-infused Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard, and more from the Marvel Rogues’ Gallery.”

A cult-classic from the PS2 era is currently only $3.74 on the PlayStation Store via a 75% discount. This is the lowest the game has ever cost on PS4 and PS5, and probably the cheapest it will ever cost on the PlayStation Store. As for the game in question, it hails from 2005, a year that gamers to the likes of Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland, God of War, Forza Motorsport, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Civilization IV, Guitar Hero, Battlefield 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Psychonauts, Burnout Revenge, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and of course NIntendogs.

There were other noteworthy games from 2005, but any more games would just be exhausting the point, which it was a fairly stacked year. And in a stacked year, you get cult classics that go overlooked by many at the time but develop a following and positive reputation over time.

An example of this, from 2005, is Indigo Prophecy, also known as Fahrenheit outside of the United States. This action-adventure game was the sophomore effort from French developer Quantic Dream at the time. For those unfamiliar with this name, it is better known in the modern era for 2010’s Heavy Rain and 2018’s Detroit: Become Human.

At the time of its release, Indigo Prophecy earned an 85 on Metacritic, won a couple awards come the end of the year, and sold over one million copies, a respectable return for the time. For those that have never experienced it, now is a good time, because it is the aforementioned $3.74 game on the PlayStation Store, at least until October 10.

“In this paranormal thriller, New York City is stunned by a series of mysterious murders that follow the same pattern: ordinary people become possessed and kill absolute strangers in public,” reads an official pitch of the game on the PlayStation Store for those unfamiliar with the title. “Play both sides of this breathtaking murder conspiracy and uncover the supernatural forces behind these crimes.”

Some PlayStation Plus subscribers have missed out on one of October’s free PS Plus games after its banning. For the month of October, PS Plus subscribers — or at least most PS Plus subscribers — on PS4 and PS5 are getting the following three games for free: Dead Space, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, and WWE 2K24. For the entire month of October these games are completely free to download, no matter what tier of PlayStation Plus a subscriber has. The offer is available via PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. Some subscribers won’t be able to download the highlight of this month though, Dead Space

While Doki Doki Literature Club Plus was once a viral hit and while the WWE 2K series is fairly popular, there is no denying for most the marquee PS Plus game this month is Dead Space. The problem with Dead Space is that it has some fairly over-the-top violent content, complete with some very realistic, gore-fueled dismemberment. This isn’t a problem in the United States, or at least it hasn’t been for a while. Violent content is still a problem in Japan though.

As you may know, the remake of Dead Space was prevented from releasing in Japan due to its violent content. As a result, PS Plus subscribers on PS4 and PS5 in Japan have not received Dead Space for the month of October. Rather, they have received Utawarerumono: Lullaby to the Fallen, a fairly substantial downgrade.

This isn’t the first time certain parts of the world — including Japan — have received a different PS Plus offer due to this issue and various other issues. And typically when it happens, the negatively impacted region receives a substantially less interesting game, which is exactly what has happened here. What makes this incident sting a little more is the replacement game — Utawarerumono: Lullaby to the Fallen — is PS4 only, unlike the game it has replaced.

One of the best games on PS5 is only $5 for a limited time. And this isn’t the only noteworthy PlayStation game currently on sale. Thanks to a couple promotional sales on the PlayStation Store, there are a metric ton of both PS4 games and PS5 games available at discount. Some of these PlayStation games are cheaper than they have ever been.

The pick of the litter is perhaps a game from 2016. When PlayStation fans think of 2016, they probably think of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and rightly so as it was the marquee release from Sony that year. They may also think of Overwatch, Dark Souls 3, or Persona 5, as some of the other best games of 2016.

Right in the Game of the Year conversation with these other games was a smaller title — from a smaller, Danish studio — called Inside. Inside is not only considered one of the best games of 2016, but one of the best games of all time. And right now, until October 10, it is 75 percent off, which means it is only $5.

If this PS4 and PS5 deal doesn’t catch the eye, there are many other dirt cheap PlayStation games right now, including games and series such as XCOM, Dead Island, Just Cause, Psychonauts, Castlevania, DOOM, LEGO, Darksiders, Burnout, Rayman, Shenmue, and Amnesia.

Another hugely popular game has been confirmed as PS5 Pro “enhanced.” While the expectation is the majority of relevant games releasing on PS5 in the post PS5 Pro-era will be enhanced for the premium Sony console, it remains to be seen how many PS5 games will be retroactively fitted for the PS5 Pro. Of course, the PS5 Pro will run these games, and run them better than the standard PS5, by default, but there’s no guarantee said game will be finely tuned to take advantage of the PS5 Pro. Some PS5 games — both out and upcoming — have confirmed this though.

The latest PS5 game to confirm it will be PS5 Pro enhanced is technically an Xbox game, as it comes from the walls of Activision-Blizzard, which is owned by Xbox. In other words, the best place to play an Xbox-owned game, at least on console, will be the PS5 Pro.

This mystery game is none other than 2023’s Diablo 4 from Blizzard Entertainment. The 91-rated release was one of the biggest releases of last year, even if it didn’t live up quite to the expectations of every Diablo fan. How many of the millions and millions of copies that have been sold have been on PS5, we don’t know, but every PlayStation fan will be able to enjoy PS5 Pro enhancements for the game when the PS5 Pro releases, assuming they pick up the new $700 console.

Right now, we don’t have any details on how the game will be enhanced for PS5 Pro. The news comes from Diablo boss Rod Fergusson, who promises to share more details at a later date.

The new free PlayStation Plus games are the best so far this year, if review scores are worth taking into consideration. There are a variety of issues with game reviews and sites, such as Metacritic, that aggregate them. However, they are one way to get a generally sense of a game’s quality. And the latest free PS Plus games, on average, have reviewed better than previous PS Plus games so far this year.

For those out of the loop, the free PS Plus games in questions are the ones made available for the month of October, for all tiers of the subscription service. Whether a PS Plus Essential subscriber, a PS Plus Extra subscriber, or a PS Plus Premium subscriber, all three of the following games are free for October: Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, Dead Space, and WWE 2K24.

For the first time this year, the review scores of these games average out to a score above 80. By this measurement, October is the best month, by a pretty margin, so far this year, as far as PlayStation Plus is concerned.

For those curious, Dead Space has an 89 on Metacritic, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus an 80, and WWE 2K24 an 81. This is at least the scores of the PS5 versions of each game. For example, on other platforms some of these games actually have higher scores.

a.png

Again, review scores are not a perfect representation of a game’s quality. In recent times, in fact, there has been a large gap between consumer and critic consensus. However, it is one of the better tools we have to get a consensus-driven data on a game’s quality.

In the month of October, specifically, Dead Space is a great fit.  Without getting into spoilers, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus ain’t bad either. WWE 2K24 is the underwhelming option for the month, but for those interested in checking it out, it is apparently better than some recent entries.

PlayStation is reportedly in the process of working on a sequel to its 2015 horror game Until Dawn. As of this week, a new remake of Until Dawn has been released across PlayStation 5 and PC. This will precede a movie adaptation of the game, which began filming a couple of months ago. With so much renewed focus now being placed on the Until Dawn franchise, it seems that PlayStation is also spinning up development on a sequel as well.

With the Until Dawn remake now available, new footage of the game’s ending has been circling and teases that there is more to come. This new conclusion of Until Dawn wasn’t seen in the original version of the title and has instead been solely added to the remake. Without spoiling anything, the remake simply adds a new scene that sets the stage for further stories in this universe fo come about in the future.

Following the reveal of this new ending, insider Nick Baker shared what he has heard about the future of Until Dawn. Specifically, Baker said on X that he has been told PlayStation studio Firesprite is currently in the process of working on Until Dawn 2. Previously, it was known via job listings that Firesprite was working on a horror title of some sort. Now, assuming that Baker’s information is accurate, it’s known that this project is Until Dawn 2

Generally speaking, it makes a lot of sense for PlayStation to work on an Until Dawn sequel for all of the aforementioned reasons. With this series set to become a film franchise in the years ahead, PlayStation will certainly want to capitalize on its jump to a new medium by making the series more accessible than ever before. Bringing Until Dawn to PS5 and PC was merely the first phase of this plan, with Until Dawn 2 being a long-term focus. Whether all of this will result in Until Dawn becoming a far larger property for PlayStation in the years to come remains seen, but it’s clear that this new remake won’t be the last we see of the franchise.

silent-hill-2-metacritic-reviews.png

The Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team and Konami is out next week, but reviews have started dropping already to give a peek into the new version of the 2001 horror game. Given that Silent Hill is nearly up there with Resident Evil in terms of how survival-horror fans revere the franchise, it’d be an understatement to say that there was pressure on Bloober Team to get the game right. Fortunately for Bloober Team as well as Silent Hill fans, however, the Metacritic score that’s been given to the game so far shows that Silent Hill 2 players shouldn’t have much to worry about next next week when the game drops on November 8th.

As of right now, Silent Hill 2 has a score of 87 on Metacritic. That’s based on just shy of 50 reviews for the PS5 version which gave it a 87 as well on that platform, though the PC version of Silent Hill 2 was just a smidge higher at 88 with only five reviews there. There is of course no Xbox version to speak of since Silent Hill 2 skipped the Xbox Series X|S with no word yet as to whether or not it’ll ever come to that platform.

Silent Hill 2 got five perfect scores of 100 which is probably not something that many Silent Hill fans were expecting at all prior to these reviews dropping. The majority of the reviews are indeed positive and praise Bloober Team’s respect for the original Silent Hill 2 while also calling it a welcome return to form for the franchise as well as a perfect launch point for newcomers who’ve never really dabbled in Silent Hill before.

The Metacritic reviews thus far include no negative scores for Silent Hill 2, only a few mixed ones. Some of those suggest that the remake perhaps stayed too close to the original Silent Hill 2 and ended up keeping some of its more frustrating and restrictive parts. Thankfully for Silent Hill 2 players, those reviews are in the minority with only a fraction of them mixed compared to the overall positive reviews.

Aside from the fact that Silent Hill 2 was revered in its franchise and its broader genre since release, the fact that Bloober Team was in charge of the remake admittedly turned some into skeptics. Bloober Team made games like Layers of Fear, The Medium, and the Blair Witch game with none of those earning exceptionally high review scores regardless of the game being reviewed. Silent Hill 2 will perhaps be a turning point in the perception of Bloober Team, however.

Our own review of Silent Hill 2 is on the way as well but was put behind a bit by getting our review copy later in the review process. But even as more reviews trickle in, it’s unlikely that the remainder will drop the Silent Hill 2 Metacritic score by any meaningful amount, so Silent Hill 2 players should have plenty to look forward to next week.

Last month, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge got the Radical Reptiles DLC, adding two new playable characters. A new Ultimate Edition physical release of the game has now been announced for PS5 and Nintendo Switch, which features the base game, the previous Dimension Shellshock DLC, and Radical Reptiles. The Ultimate Edition is being handled by Limited Run Games, with a standard edition that will cost $34.99. However, the Ultimate Edition will also receive a collector’s edition with some pretty nifty extras, including a three disc CD soundtrack, a set of lithographs, and four exclusive action figures.

An image of the collector’s edition can be found below. Pre-orders are now live at the official website of Limited Run Games, which can be found right here

tmnt-shredders-revenge-ce.png

Preorders will be live through November 3rd. However, readers interested in the collector’s edition should act quickly, as there will be a limit of 5,000 made per platform. While some fans are lamenting the fact that Shredder’s Revenge has now received multiple physical releases, and multiple collector’s editions, this actually isn’t a bad deal! The four figures in the set seem to be based on the original Playmates designs, with a new color scheme inspired by the game. Given the fact that these won’t be offered elsewhere, it’s probably an easy buy for TMNT fans!

In addition to the standard and collector’s editions, Limited Run Games has also opened pre-orders for some vinyl soundtrack offerings. For $27.99, fans can buy a vinyl soundtrack featuring the Radical Remixes that were released alongside the Radical Reptiles DLC. For $99.99, there’s also a Vinyl Box Set, which includes the Radical Remixes vinyl as well as the soundtrack for the base game, and for Dimension Shellshock

It remains to be seen whether Radical Reptiles will actually be the last bit of content released for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, or if we can expect to see more in the future. Fans have been hoping for a sequel announced, but it seems the developers are still waiting to see how the game and its DLC performs

Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has been working on the game’s Mori kill system for a while now, the one where Killer players are able to execute Survivors with a stylish flair under certain circumstances. In the most recent series of changes, Behaviour made it so that Killer players could kill off the final Survivor in a match after putting them in the dying state to give a round a much more cinematic conclusion, but in doing so, the offerings that’d let Killers Mori kill Survivors mid-match were reworked to basically be giant Bloodpoint bonuses instead.

While some Dead by Daylight players were in favor of this new Mori kill setup, many more weren’t happy with it at all. It would promote unhealthy behaviors from players seeking those massive Bloodpoint incentives, some said, while others wanted to continue seeking the thrill of pulling off a Mori kill in the middle of a match instead of it always being at the end of the game when the other Survivor players had tuned out.

After assessing that feedback, Behaviour decided to revert the changes for two offerings: the Ivory Memento Mori and Ebony Memento Mori Offerings. Instead of just granting big Bloodpoint bonuses when brought into a match, these two Mori-focused offerings will instead allow people to kill Survivors who have been hooked twice.

“We’ve received a lot of feedback about the changes made to the Ivory & Ebony Memento Mori Offerings during the PTB,” the latest Dead by Daylight patch notes explained. “This came down to the loss of mid-match kills & group photo opportunities, as well as concerns that the Bloodpoint reward would encourage unfun behaviour. With that in mind, we have reverted the changes to the Mori Offerings.”

Those two Mori offerings are the ones that allow for kills in the middle of a match regardless of how many Survivors are left, but another offering, the Cypress Memento Mori, is being retired completely. Its purpose was to grant Killers the ability to kill the last Survivor in a match once they were put in the dying state, and since the Mori system is being reworked so that you can do that for free, there’s no reason for this offering to exist anymore. As such, it’s being taken out of the game, and for those who have any Cypress Memento Moris they’re holding onto, you’ll get 1 million Bloodpoints just for logging into the game during a window in October.

“As a result, the Cypress Memento Mori Offering is now obsolete and will be retired,” the devs continued. “We will offer 1 Million Bloodpoints for any unused Offerings, which you can claim simply by logging in between October 8th and October 17th.”

A popular PS4 game has been updated, leaving over 40 million PlayStation fans with missing content. The PS4 game in question hails from 2013, a year where gamers were treated to the likes of Grand Theft Auto V, The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, Super Mario 3D World, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Rayman Legends, DOTA 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Europa Universalis IV, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, The Stanley Parable, Pikmin 3, Saints Row IV, Tomb Raider, The Wolf Among Us, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and much more. More popular than most of these games was Payday 2, which also came out the same year. Within 10 years, it sold over 40 million copies.

In 2024, it isn’t as popular as it used to be, but it is still played by many, partly due to the fact it is free on a couple subscription services, including PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. Its successor, Payday 3 came out last year, yet Payday 2 gets more attention, a testament not to just its popularity, but the poor reception of Payday 3.

All of that said, recently the game was updated, removing content. Thankfully, all that own the game already will not be impacted by this change. Anyone who downloads the game going forward will be though. This includes anyone who plays the game via PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium. In other words, millions of PlayStation fans just lost content they previously had access to.

Not only has the game’s soundtrack been trimmed, removing some expired license content, but the John Wick and Point Break DLC content is gone from the game. Again, those who already own the game still have access to this content, everyone else is out of luck. Of course, the licenses could be renewed, but if this was the plan they would have been renewed before any of this happened.

A 2024 horror game that is heavily inspired by those on the original PlayStation console is set to release on new platforms soon. By all accounts, the PS1 might feature the most iconic catalog of horror games ever. Throughout its run in the 1990s, the PS1 saw games like Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Silent Hill, Clock Tower, Dino Crisis, and numerous others all head to the platform. Now, a game that is similar in style to these classics is set to land on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch just in time for Halloween.

Announced today by developer and publisher SFB Games, Crow Country will soon be making the jump to PS4 and Switch on October 16th. Released earlier in 2024, Crow Country was initially only available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Given its rousing popularity, though, those on PS4 and Switch made it known that they wanted to see the game come to their platforms of choice. Soon, that will finally be happening.

In case you haven’t heard of Crow Country before, the game borrows heavily from the ideas and aesthetic seen in titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. While it might seem like nothing more than a cheap imitation, Crow Country has been received incredibly well by players and critics alike. On Steam, Crow Country boasts an astounding “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating from players, while its Metacritic score sits at a strong 84/100. So if you’re looking for a horror game to play this October, it should definitely be on your watchlist.

To learn more about Crow Country, you can check out the horror game’s latest trailer and official synopsis attached below.

Crow Country

“The year is 1990. It’s been two years since the mysterious disappearance of Edward Crow and the abrupt closure of his theme park, Crow Country. But your arrival has broken the silence, Mara Forest. If you want answers, you’ll have to venture deep into the darkness of Crow Country to find them.

A survival horror game, where you’ll test yourself against puzzles and riddles as you investigate the eerie tranquility of the abandoned theme park. Don’t be deceived by the whimsical surroundings, something is awfully wrong in Crow Country.

As you unlock new areas, backtrack and discover more, you gradually piece together why Edward really shut down his park and where he mysteriously disappeared to. You’ve heard some pretty disturbing rumors, but they couldn’t possibly be true…..right?

For visitors to the park who are more interested in spotting crows and taking in the sights, Exploration Mode allows you to journey on without the fear of being attacked by the mysterious monsters roaming Crow Country. Just how far would someone go to follow their ambition? Are some sins too wicked for redemption?”

Ghost of Yotei Will Feature More “Unique Experiences” Compared to Tsushima https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/ghost-of-yotei-ps5-open-world-activities/ Wed, 02 Oct 2024 18:10:00 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=591141 ghost-of-yotei-key-art.jpg

Sucker Punch has said that it’s planning to fill the world of Ghost of Yotei with more unique activities when compared to Ghost of Tsushima. While Tsushima is one of the most well-received games in the PS4 era, it’s also hard to say that its open-world was all that creative. The game was littered with side tasks that required players to 49 foxes, write 23 haikus, and chop 20 bamboo posts. While these activities were fun at first, they became a bit redundant, especially for those looking to 100% the game. Now, with Ghost of Yotei, Sucker Punch seems like it’s trying to avoid a repeat of this format.

Speaking to The New York Times, Ghost of Yotei’s creative director Jason Connell said that one aspect of the game that SuckerPunch is trying to improve is its world. Connell specifically pointed to repetition as something that is hard to overcome in open-world titles and was one area that Ghost of Tsushima received some criticism. For Ghost of Yotei, the studio is trying to find a better balance of giving players a lot to do in the game’s world while making that content continually enjoyable.

“One challenge that comes with making an open-world game is the repetitive nature of doing the same thing over again,” Connell said. “We wanted to balance against that and find unique experiences.”

Creating a more diverse open-world is likely one of the biggest ways that Ghost of Yotei can improve from its predecessor. Open-world games, in particular, have evolved a lot since 2020 when Ghost of Tsushima first released. Titles like Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have placed a larger emphasis on freedom in exploration while still giving players the option to go down a more linear path. Whether or not a similar structure ends up appearing in Ghost of Yotei isn’t known as full gameplay details on the project have yet to emerge.

Ghost of Yotei still doesn’t have a specific release date, but it’s known that the highly-anticipated sequel is targeting a launch in 2025. Assuming that it does meet this window, it will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5 consoles.

The next update for Disney Dreamlight Valley is just around the corner. After some teases earlier in the week, Gameloft pulled back the curtain today on the new update, Jungle Getaway. The update, which will be released on October 9th, will see the addition of Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King. As previously revealed, the two characters will not be getting their own Realm, but instead players will revisit the existing one that introduced Simba and Nala. However, this time around, the Lion King Realm will be seen during the daytime.

The full Developer Update video for Jungle Getaway can be found below.

Once Timon and Pumbaa have been moved into the Valley, players will be able to go on different quests with each character. Timon’s quest will center around calming his nerves and helping him adjust to life in the valley. Meanwhile, Pumbaa’s quest will see the character learning about pottery! According to today’s developer update, “this time, the clay requirements are minimal.” By completing quests with the two characters, players will be able to unlock some new avatar items.

The new update will see the arrival of a Star Path called The Night Show. The theme is inspired by music festivals and rock concerts. Players can expect outfits and hairstyles inspired by Disney villains, princesses, and rock music. Star Path rewards will also include furniture items like neon lights and pyrotechnic displays. In an interesting turn, Gameloft announced today that it has partnered with Loungefly, and players will be able to obtain replicas of real backpack designs. The Star Path will include two Loungefly rewards: a Dragon Maleficent backpack and Sorcerer Mickey. There will also be a glow-in-the-dark Ghost Mickey Loungefly, but how to obtain it has not been revealed just yet.

Last but not least, this new update will see a handful of quality of life improvements, including changes to Scrooge’s Store, and new options for item placement. Gameloft previously noted that this update will be a smaller one compared to others, but it certainly looks like players will have a lot to enjoy when it goes live next week!

Sony has released a statement responding to a recent controversy related to invasive ads that were appearing on PlayStation 5 consoles. Within recent weeks, Sony released a new update for PS5 that added the “Welcome Hub” to the console’s dashboard. This new feature allowed users to also fine-tune their experience on PS5 more than ever before and even let them remove ads from the home page. In the wake of this overhaul, though, some PS5 users reported that they were still seeing ads on the console, just in different places than before. Now, Sony has made clear that this wasn’t intentional.

In a message released on social media, Sony chalked up the appearance of these unwanted ads on PS5 as nothing more than a “tech error”. The issue, which has now been fixed, led to news and advertisements for various games on PlayStation appearing in the background of select games that were installed on the console. Sony says that on its end, it made no adjustments to how game advertisements were previously displayed, which means that this only happened due to a random mistake.

“A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved,” Sony said on its @AskPlayStation account. “There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5.”

While it’s great to hear that this problem shouldn’t be persisting on PS5, Sony could also permanently resolve matters like this by simply bringing themes back to the console. Perhaps more than any other feature, PlayStation fans have been making it known since the launch of the PS5 in 2020 that they want to see dynamic themes from the PS4 era return to Sony’s latest hardware. To this point, the “Welcome Hub” is the closest that users have come to seeing this request realized and it seems that Sony is content with this middle ground for the time being.

Did you happen to come across this issue with ads on the PS5 dashboard for yourself in recent days? And how do you feel about Sony’s response to this matter? Let me know your own thoughts over on X at @MooreMan12

A massive outage of Sony’s PlayStation Network transpired late last night and into the early hours of this morning. As a result, users across PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles around the globe weren’t able to connect to the internet and use a variety of features tied to either platform.  At the time of this writing, Sony hasn’t provided a public explanation for why PSN went down without any warning, but some fans believe that it could be the result of a hack.

In the wake of PSN returning to normal activity today, PlayStation users across various subreddits have started to try to piece together why the service went down. Longtime PlayStation users from the PS3 era remember when PSN went offline for 23 straight days in 2011. This infamous period of downtime with PSN happened as a result of a data breach at Sony that resulted in the tech giant taking down the online platform until it could ensure the safety of its users. Others found it curious that PSN also went down on the same day that similar outages happened at Xbox and Verizon.

“Considering Xbox and Verizon had a nationwide outage earlier in the day, my brain tells me they were attacked in some way,” speculated u/buddyguy72 on Reddit.

Although there’s nothing definitive to indicate that Sony was once again hacked, it wouldn’t be the first time since 2011 that such a cyberattack transpired. In 2014, another attack aimed at Sony resulted in PSN having a widespread outage on Christmas Day. Subsequent hacks have since happened in one-off instances, but nothing has ever caused PSN to go down for multiple days as was seen in 2011. Still, today’s outage was one of the longest we have seen in quite some time, which is why many fans are discussing the matter more than they normally would.

For now, it seems unlikely that Sony will provide an answer as it’s rarely transparent on matters like this. Instead, all we’re likely to know from Sony’s end is that “all services are up and running” once again, as it states on its PSN status page. If an official statement from Sony does end up coming about, though, we’ll be sure to update you here on ComicBook

Sony is making an attempt to combat scalpers with a new method of selling its 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle. This past week, pre-orders for PlayStation’s slew of 30th Anniversary items went live across North America and Europe and resulted in a chaotic mess, to say the least. Not only was the purchasing process confusing, but most of the 30th Anniversary Collection had sold out on PlayStation Direct before fans were ever able to attempt buying anything. Now, with sales beginning in Japan, Sony is trying to limit who can obtain the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary bundle just a bit.

Reported first by Automaton, a message on the Japanese PlayStation website has revealed that Sony is doing pre-orders for the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary console differently in its home nation. Rather than opening up pre-orders to anyone and everyone, Sony has placed conditions on this sale that any potential buyers have to have an active PlayStation Network account that has seen at least 30 hours of activity across PS5 and PS4 consoles from February 2014 to September 2024. While this might not seem like a very high bar to clear, it’s a way for Sony to ensure that those who acquire the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro are actual PlayStation fans, rather than someone who wants the hardware for no other reason than to sell it.

Sony also notes on the page that it will be doing the pre-order process for the PS5 Pro in Japan much differently than what was seen in the West. Rather than having potential buyers all hop on the PS Direct website at a single time to wait in a virtual line, Sony will be taking open orders for the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary bundle from anyone who wants it. If these orders then exceed the number of units that Sony is selling (which will almost certainly happen), it will then use a raffle system to determine who gets their purchase fulfilled. There’s still a major element of randomness to this, but it’s almost certainly a better process than before.

How do you feel about these changes that Sony made when selling its PlayStation 30th Anniversary items in Japan? And do you wish that these same restrictions would have been made in other regions? Let me know your own thoughts over on social media at @MooreMan12

PlayStation Network has hit a sudden snag as it has gone down in a major global outage. It’s been a wild time to be a fan of PlayStation right now as fans recently reacted negatively to the fact that advertisements were starting to appear in their PlayStation 5 titles unexpectedly. This comes during a period of shift for the brand as well, and it makes it that much more of a bummer to also find out that the PlayStation Network has gone down in a major global outage. As of the time of this publication, many PlayStation services are experiencing issues such as account management, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation store and more as of 8:21 PM CST on September 30th.

According to the status update page with PlayStation, “You might have difficulty signing in or creating an account for PlayStation Network. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.” This is across all listed platforms still tapped into the PlayStation Network, and expands to its other services as well beyond just signing in. It’s even going as far as having an effect on launching games, apps or other network features. It also means fans wanting to buy PlayStation Video content will be unable to as well along with not being able to use the PlayStation Store.

When Will PlayStation Network Be Back?

As of the time of this publication, there has yet to be a time table revealing when the PlayStation Network will be fully operational again. It’s led to some hilarious reactions among fans who are complaining that the network is down right when they’re getting off of long shifts at work. It’s many fans respite after a tough day, and now not being able to go online in some cases might mean that tonight they’ve been struck with a big block to having a good time. Fans are hilariously reacting with teary eyed memes and reaction videos, but it goes to show how big of a shut down this is.

This is all part of a wave of changes for the PlayStation brand that have been rubbing fans the wrong way in many kinds of occasions. The first came when it was announced that the PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller went up five dollars USD to its new $69.99 USD pricing, and then some of the controllers got an upgrade while some others did not. Then these issues were exacerbated in other ways in the following days and weeks. So it’s like the PlayStation Network going down is just another issue to throw on top of the pile.

What’s Going On With PlayStation?

Earlier this month, PlayStation 5 was updated to have a new “Welcome Hub” and it was a new update to the overall dashboard of the console. It was soon revealed that there had been unwanted advertisements that weren’t seen before, and some users even experienced seeing these ads in the background when trying to select one of the titles to play. It’s another issue on top of a Fall season that has resulted in plenty of changes, and many of these changes are leading to ill responses from fans. At the same time, PlayStation is also trying to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

With the release of new consoles and accessories with special decorations for the 30th anniversary planned, it’s all been a roller coaster of a time to be a fan of the company. It’s been one step forward, and one step back in many ways in and out of their control.

PlayStation fans aren’t very happy after a recent PS5 update added ads with games. It’s long been a criticism of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S that Microsoft floods the dashboard — the home screen — with ads that can’t be ignored or removed. In fact, ads on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have been getting worse, and now sometimes take over your entire screen when the console is booted up. Since the release of the PS5, this has been a foreign problem for PlayStation fans, but it looks like this is changing.

Earlier this month, PlayStation released a new PS5 update complete with what it called the new “Welcome Hub,” a revamp of the PS5 dashboard. And at the time, PS5 users were able to effectively remove all advertising widgets on the console to have a more tailored experience not ruined with Sony and partners trying to sell you stuff.

Since then though, PlayStation fans have noticed a change on the PS5 dashboard, complete with more ads, removing any good grace the change above earned. Whether deliberate or the result of a glitch, remains to be seem. The chances of it being the the latter are slim.

As some PlayStation fans have begun to point out, now PS5 games on the dashboard will load ads in the background. And there is no way to remove these ads. What’s odd though, is the new effect seems to be specific to certain games, while some users are reporting nothing changed at all. That said, below you can see some examples of the change, courtesy of X user Alfredobofa:

a.jpg
b.jpg

“Imagine you’re a first time user of PS5 this holiday season and you go from PS4 themes to this,” writes one comment. “This level of enshittification must be studied.” Another comment adds: “This is an objectively terrible change.”

It has been suggested by a few PlayStation fans this only occurs when users highlight games that have “official news” related to them, which would explain why only some PS5 games have this. However, this has not been confirmed.

A new season of Disney Dreamlight Valley is coming soon, and it will see the arrival of Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King. Today, Gameloft announced a name for the new season, which will be titled Jungle Getaway. This season will see players revisit The Lion King Realm, and the narrative will center around a new creature called Night Mites. Night Mites will have some kind of connection to both Night Thorns and the Forgotten. Details are slim right now, but we won’t have to wait long to learn more; additional details will be unveiled on Wednesday, October 2nd when a new Developer Update Video is released!

Back in August, Gameloft said that the October update will be on the smaller side, focused more on bug fixes and quality of life improvements, as opposed to new content. It remains to be seen just how small this update might actually be, but hopefully fans will still have a lot to look forward to. Going off past developer updates, it’s a safe bet that Jungle Getaway should be released next week. The new season will be accompanied by a new Star Path, and while Gameloft has not revealed what the Star Path theme will be, the company has offered some hints at items players will be able to earn

Interestingly enough, Timon and Pumbaa were first teased by Gameloft all the way back in January of this year. The company put out a survey asking players about potential pairs of characters that could be added to the game. Timon and Pumbaa were listed alongside Bo Peep and Rex, and Cogsworth and Lumiere. We have no way of knowing just how much Gameloft weighed fan opinion, but it’s interesting to think this season’s theme could have focused on entirely different characters, had the voting gone a different way!

Following the October update, there will be one last major update for 2024. That does not have a set release window, but will likely arrive in late November or early December, and will see the arrival of Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. No additional details are known at this time.

The Last of Us Secret Hidden for Years Revealed by Naughty Dog https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/the-last-of-us-naughty-dog-secret/ Mon, 30 Sep 2024 17:31:58 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=652359 t-h-e-l-a-s-t-o-f-u-s.png

Naughty Dog has revealed a Last of Us secret that was hidden from PlayStation players until this week. Considering PlayStation and Naughty Dog have re-released The Last of Us twice since the original was released in 2013, there should be nothing about the PS3, PS4, and PS5 game that PlayStation fans don’t know about it. Yet, a new reveal from Naughty Dog has left PlayStation fans wondering what else don’t they know about the all-time classic.

This newly-revealed secret wasn’t in the original game though, nor the PS4 remaster, aka The Last of Us Remastered. Rather, it was added in the PS5 remaster, The Last of Us Part I, when the game was released again in 2022. And it involves the Left Behind DLC for the game.

Using the official Naughty Dog X account, the California-based developer revealed that you can use an easter egg from Left Behind to manually change the lighting of the main menu in The Last of Us Part I. More specifically, by pressing up, up, down, down, left, down, right, triangle on the main menu, PlayStation fans can change its lighting.

How many more Last of Us secrets exist out there, who knows. There may not be any, or at least none more excited than this otherwise those would have been presumably revealed and highlighted, and not this one.

“The best thing I can say about The Last of Us Part I is that it meets Naughty Dog’s previous claim: this is absolutely the definitive edition of the game,” reads a snippet from our official review of the PS5 re-release of the game. “Not only do the improved graphics, lighting, and animations make for a better throughline experience, but they also add more emotional resonance to Joel and Ellie’s story than ever before. In the brief history of the PS5, The Last of Us Part I is one of the most visually impressive games that I’ve played so far and it makes me that much more excited to see what Naughty Dog does with its next wholly new project for the platform.”

palworld-update.jpg

Palworld has been available on PlayStation 5 for less than a week now, but the game just received a new update on the platform. The newest version of the game is 0.3.8, and it fixes a small handful of bugs that players might have run into. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything in terms of actual new content this time around. This is the same update that was recently released on both PC and Xbox, so fans on those platforms aren’t missing out on anything. Full patch notes from the game’s official X/Twitter account can be found below:

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Pals would sometimes get stuck at the base
  • Fixed an issue where the player character would go under the ground when starting the game
  • Fixed an issue where the game would sometimes disconnect from the server when trying to add a roof or wall to a large building

Even with these bug fixes, there are still a lot more things players want to see resolved. There are also features players would like to see implemented, including the addition of crossplay. However, Palworld players should keep in mind that Pocketpair is a relatively small company; as a result, it could take some time before some bug fixes and features are implemented. The company also noted earlier this month that the current lawsuit brought by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company will require them “to allocate significant time to matters unrelated to game development.” Basically, updates could end up slowing down a bit.

While Palworld has been released on PS5 in most regions of the world, the game is currently unavailable in Japan. A release date in the region currently remains undecided, and Pocketpair has yet to offer any update on when that might change. An official reason for the lack of Japanese release has not been explained, as the game is available on both PC and Xbox in the region. There has been speculation that it could be a result of the lawsuit filed by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, but that has not been officially confirmed. For now, PS5 users in Japan will just have to wait patiently!

Have you checked out the PS5 version of Palworld? What do you think of this update? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS4 and PS5 have 24 hours to grab three popular games for free. Unlike some PS Plus offers, this offer is not tier-exclusives. Whether a PS Plus Essential subscriber, a PS Plus Extra subscriber, or a PS Plus Premium subscriber, the offer is available. Meanwhile, all three games are on both PS4 and PS5, extending the offer to owners of either generation Sony console.

The three free PS Plus games have been available the entire month of September as the month’s free PS Plus Essential games. And tomorrow they will be replaced with October’s free PS Plus games. Until then though, for 24 hours, everyone on PS4 and PS5 with a PS Plus subscription, regardless of what tier it is, can grab the following three games for free: Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, Little Nightmares 2, and MLB The Show 24.

Once download, PS4 and PS5 users can enjoy the games as much as they want as long as they maintain an active PS Plus subscription. These are full free game downloads, but they are tied to an active PS Plus subscription. As long as subscribers maintain an active subscription they have unlimited access to any game downloaded for free via a PS Plus subscription. If this subscription lapses though, access to these games will vanish until a PS Plus subscription is renewed.

Below, PS Plus subscribers can read more about the three free PS4 and PS5 games, courtesy of an official game description and an official trailer:

Little Nightmares 2 ($29.99)

“A host of brand-new Residents lie in wait to haunt your steps and disturb your sleep. Outsmart the sadistic Teacher, survive the bloodthirsty Hunter and flee from many more terrifying characters, as Mono and Six journey through this world together. Escape a world that’s rotten from the inside. Your journey will take you from creepy woodlands, to sinister schools, on your way to the dreadful Signal Tower to find the source of the evil that spreads through the TV screens of the world.”

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions ($29.99)

“Your next chapter takes flight! Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Quidditch by playing solo or sharing the magic with friends and family. Plus, keep your Gringotts vault closed because there are no microtransactions!”

MLB The Show 24 ($39.99)

“Swing for the fences, experience game-deciding moments, become a legend and live out your baseball dreams in MLB The Show 24. Everyone has a moment to own. Everyone has a story to tell. Unlock your moment. Own The Show.”

A game from the PS1 that PlayStation fans have constantly been requesting come to PS5 and PS4 is finally making the jump soon. In recent years, Sony has made a much more concentrated effort to port over titles from legacy PlayStation platforms to current-gen hardware. For PS1 titles, this has resulted in games like Ape Escape, The Legend of Dragoon, Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal, and numerous others all landing on PS5 and PS4. Now, this trend is set to continue later in 2024 with a game that stems from Capcom.

In a recent announcement from PlayStation, the publisher confirmed that Dino Crisis will be coming to PS5 and PS4 at some point before the end of the year. Released in 1999 for PS1, Dino Crisis was a survival-horror title from Capcom that was developed by the same team that created Resident Evil. Rather than have zombies chase down players, though, Dino Crisis had vicious, prehistoric beasts threatening to take them out. Dino Crisis went on to spawn a handful of sequels, but hasn’t been seen since 2003’s Dino Crisis 3

This 21-year gap without a new release of any sort is one of the biggest reasons why Dino Crisis has been so often requested to come to modern hardware. With Capcom now bringing back Dino Crisis in some capacity, it will make the game more widely available than ever before. Naturally, this could then open the door to Capcom doing something completely new with the series, assuming that this port ends up being popular.

For now, there’s still very little that we know about this new version of Dino Crisis. A specific release date for the port has yet to be disclosed, but it is known to be joining the PlayStation Plus “Classics” catalog for Premium subscribers when it does launch. Beyond this, Dino Crisis on PS5/PS4 should have some new video and gameplay features along with trophy support, as this has been seen with other PS1 re-releases over the past few years. More specifics on this front will surely come about in the weeks ahead.

Twisted Metal has been a surprise success story on Peacock, and a second season is officially on the way. That’s pretty impressive for a franchise that has been all but abandoned by PlayStation, but it seems things could be changing. J.S. Gilbert, the voice of Sweet Tooth in the Twisted Metal games, has said that he has heard rumors about some kind of “special release” of three older games in the series: Twisted Metal: Head-On, Twisted Metal 2, and Twisted Metal: Black. In a post on Reddit, Gilbert said that this package will apparently see release next year.

“I did hear that Head On, TM2 and TM: Black are being ‘refreshed’ and bundled for some special release in 2025. But who knows, I suppose I could get a call asking me to do the voice on a new TM game. I’m not holding my breath though,” Gilbert posted.

In the Peacock series, Sweet Tooth is voiced by actor Will Arnette. In that same post, Gilbert shared his belief that Arnette could end up being the voice actor for the character in future Twisted Metal games. This is the first time it’s been suggested that Arnette could end up taking over the video game role, so fans should take that with a grain of salt for the time being. That said, Arnette does have some experience with video game voice acting, having appeared in games like LEGO Dimensions and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. On one hand, An appearance by Arnette would be a nice bridge to the streaming show, but it could also frustrate longtime fans of the series.

This console generation has seen PlayStation put a lot of focus on remasters of existing games, making them available on both PS5 and Steam. Some kind of remastered collection of previous Twisted Metal games would not only fit with that strategy, but it would also be a smart way for PlayStation to give the series another chance at life. At this point, it’s been more than a decade since the last Twisted Metal. If PlayStation has any chance of making the series relevant again, now would seem like the perfect time.

Would you like to see a Twisted Metal remastered collection? Do you think we’ll see Will Arnett voicing Sweet Tooth in the games? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

The Dapper Delights Star Path in Disney Dreamlight Valley will be ending in just two days, meaning fans have a limited time to obtain items based on The Princess and the Frog, as well as the movie’s 1920s time period. That means a new Star Path is around the corner, and the game’s developers are once again teasing what’s ahead. As is usually the case, these teases come in the form of emoji pairs shared on the game’s official X/Twitter account. This time around, the emoji pairs include fireworks and a speaker, a fist and a microphone, and a backpack and a dragon.

As far as teases go, these ones are pretty cryptic! The central theme is tough to surmise, but some fans have put out guesses that include Coco, Turning Red, and Raya and the Last Dragon. It’s easy to see how each of those could connect with at least one or two of the hints, but until Gameloft pulls back the curtain, it’s all just speculation. As the Star Path’s release draws closer, we can probably expect to see some more hints.

The one thing Disney Dreamlight Valley fans can agree on is that none of these teases seems indicative of a Halloween theme. Since this Star Path will be (presumably) released alongside the planned October update, fans were hoping to see some Star Path items related to the spooky season. Most of the people responding to Gameloft’s Tweet are preemptively sharing frustration about a lack of Halloween theme. Fans might be jumping the gun a bit; while none of these hints seems to have any connection to Halloween, it doesn’t necessarily mean the Star Path won’t have some Halloween items, or even a Halloween theme that pulls from various movies.

At this time, the next Star Path and update for Disney Dreamlight Valley do not have a release date. We do know that they’ll arrive in October, and this one will see the arrival of Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King. The narrative for that update will see players return to the Realm based on that film, and Gameloft has noted that the update  will be “smaller in scope and shorter, with a focus on fixes and quality of life improvements.”

What do you think the new Star Path theme will be? Are you hoping for something Halloween related? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

The remake of Silent Hill 2 isn’t set to be released until October 8th, but it seems at least one lucky fan was able to get a copy early on PlayStation 5. According to Reddit user ConflictConscious665, someone they know was able to secure a copy of the game, and has already spent a good chunk of time with it. While the user says they don’t know how this person was able to obtain it, they did provide some proof in the form of screenshots. The first of these screens shows the player’s play time and progress, as well as their current location in the game.

Interestingly enough, the screenshot says the player is at 39% completion, after eight hours of play. That would seem to support creative director Mateusz Lenart’s claim that Silent Hill 2 will take about 16-18 hours to complete. Fans are often skeptical about developer estimates regarding length, but it really does seem like the game is about twice as long as the original version. For gamers that care a lot about length and their overall cost investment, that number might matter quite a bit.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Silent Hill 2 remake is what level of quality players can expect. The original version of Silent Hill 2 is considered one of the best games ever, and a lot of fans have been concerned about developer Bloober Team’s lack of experience with AAA games. We probably won’t have any reviews until the week of release, but ConflictConscious665 says that the person playing has been impressed so far, positively comparing it to the remake of Resident Evil 2

The most likely scenario regarding this leaked copy of Silent Hill 2 is that it came from a store that accidentally shelved the game early. That’s not unheard of; lots of retailers have broken street dates for games over the years, usually by accident. If that is the case, it could suggest that other people also have copies of the game ahead of time. Luckily, there shouldn’t be many concerns about the story getting spoiled (since this is a remake), but Silent Hill fans that want to go in knowing as little as possible might want to avoid discussions of the game until launch, just in case!

Are you planning on checking out the remake of Silent Hill 2? Did you ever play the original game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Sony is set to release the PS5 Pro on November 7, and with a hefty $700 price point. With this price tag, Sony is going to have to convince many PlayStation fans to splurge on the premium piece of hardware. The best way to do this is with games or, more specifically, PS5 Pro “Enhanced” games. For the purposes of marketing, “Enhanced” is being used by Sony to differentiate games with specific PS5 Pro enhancements and every other game that will run better on the console compared to the PS5 but hasn’t had anything done specifically to it to facilitate this.

To this end, as of September 28, today, there are 55 confirmed PS5 Pro Enhanced games, including mostly larger, AAA games, however, there are some smaller titles in the mix as well. Meanwhile, while there are PS5 games not out yet featured, so far the list is predominately made up of games already out on PS5.

Some notable examples of the former include Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Marvel’s Wolverine. Meanwhile, the latter includes games like Hogwarts Legacy and Stellar Blade.

All 55 PS5 Pro Enhanced Games:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows
  • CyubeVR
  • Demon’s Souls
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2
  • Dynasty Warriors: Origins
  • EA Sports College Football 25
  • EA Sports FC 25
  • Empire of the Ants
  • Enlisted
  • F1 24
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  • Fortnite
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Kayak VR Mirage
  • Lies of P
  • Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
  • Madden NFL 25
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Marvel Rivals
  • Marvel’s Wolverine
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
  • Mortal Kombat 1
  • My Little Universe
  • Naraka: Bladepoint
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Pro Baseball Spirits 2024-2025
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Redacted
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Retrieval
  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Rogue Flight
  • Spine: This is Gun Fu
  • Star Wars Jedi Survivor
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Stellar Blade
  • The Callisto Protocol
  • The Crew Motorfest
  • The First Descendant
  • The Last of Us Part I
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown
  • Towers of Aghasba
  • Until Dawn
  • Warframe
  • War Thunder
  • World of Warships: Legends

Of course, more games will be added to this list between now and November 7, but for now this is what PS5 Pro early adopters can expect come launch. Meanwhile, the assumption is all releases after November 7 will greatly expand this list.

A cult-classic from the PS3 era is returning with a PS5 remaster. The game in question hails from the year 2011, a year that gamers were treated to the likes of Minecraft, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City, Portal 2, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, LittleBigPlanet 2, Rayman Origins, Gears of War 3, Bastion, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Limbo, Dead Space 2, Super Mario 3D Land, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Dark Souls, Terraria, Pokemon Black and White, L.A. Noire, Infamous 2, Catherine, Resistance 3, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, and Saints Row: The Third. The list goes on but the point is clear without any further mentions: 2011 was stacked. In fact, it was one of the great years in video game history. And in a year such as 2011, many games go under the radar.

The game in question came from a duo many probably never heard of: Ignition Tokyo and UTV Ignition Games. Upon release, it only garnered a 78 on Metacritic, which is a solid score but not a great score. It also didn’t sell very well. As a result, it never moved forward with a sequel, but over time it did become a bit of a cult classic. If those dots don’t connect, the game is El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

As you may know, the game got a remaster in 2021 that came to PC. Three years later, this remaster came to Nintendo Switch back in April. And now it is in development for PS5, though there is currently no word of as release date. Meanwhile, the original version is only available on PS3 and Xbox 360.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, originally released in 2011, is a unique third-person action adventure filled with a deeply artistic world-building, outstanding aesthetics and thrilling battles,” reads an official blurb about the remaster. “Experience an incredible mix of 2D-like platformer action and a colorful 3D world in an exceptional setting.”

As mentioned above, the game never got a direct sequel, but it did get a follow-up of sorts in the form of The Lost Child. Unfortunately, the 2017 RPG wasn’t very good, reviewing rather poorly, selling poorly, and ultimately being removed from sale in 2023 due to some publishing rights issues. Those interested in playing the two games together can still find it in physical form in second-hand markets.

PlayStation has surprised everyone with a three free PS5 downloads. It has been an eventful week for PlayStation fans. Both the PS5 Pro and the PS5 30th Anniversary Collection went up for pre-order this week at PlayStation Direct. Naturally, it was a mess. Meanwhile, there was also a new PlayStation State of Play, complete with a Ghost of Tsushima sequel. And October’s free PS Plus games were even revealed. In between all of this, PlayStation fans on PS5 were also surprised with three free downloads.

In addition to everything else this week, The Last of Us Part 1 was also made free via PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. And if that wasn’t enough for Last of Us fans, PlayStation also released three new PSN avatars for the game, all free, featuring Ellie, Joel, and a Clicker.

The three free PSN avatars have been given out as part of the aforementioned 30-year anniversary of PlayStation. This was also why the PS5 remaster of the first Last of Us was made free via PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. How long these Last of Us Part 1 PSN avatars are going to be available to download for free, PlayStation doesn’t say, but it is presumably a permanent offer, or at least going to be live as long the 30-year anniversary of PlayStation celebrations are still live.

Some PlayStation fans have been disappointed by the free offer due to the art style of the avatars. Rather than opt to simply recreate the characters and monsters how they look in the game, the artist behind the avatars has given each a more stylized look that is proving unpopular among PlayStation fans.

“These PS Plus avatars are always so ugly. They got a good selection of characters people would want as their avatars but use a terrible art style and have the tacky Plus symbol in the back,” writes one fan of the avatars. “Those are ugly. The only one that looks good is the Clicker. Holy crap,” adds another fan

While the avatars also feature the PlayStation Plus symbol, this freebie is not limited to PS Plus. Those without a subscription can download the freebies the same as those with a PS Plus subscription.
