Valve released the Steam Deck at the start of the 2022. While the handheld Valve machine has not challenged Nintendo’s complete and utter dominance of the handheld market, it has proven to be a success for Valve. And you would expect Valve to build upon this success, but it sounds like it is in no rush to get a Steam Deck 2 out.

According to Valve designer Lawrence Yang, Valve is not going to release the Steam Deck 2 just to release something that is a slight improvement to the current Steam Deck in the name of simply getting another piece of hardware on the market. Rather, Valve is — according to Yang — prepared to wait until a proper generational leap is available; only then will the Steam Deck 2 release. Right now, this is not possible with the Steam Deck 2, hence why a successor isn’t currently out, but this could change over time.

“It is important to us, and we’ve tried to be really clear, we are not doing the yearly cadence,” said Yang speaking to Reviews. “We’re not going to do a bump every year. There’s no reason to do that. And, honestly, from our perspective, that’s kind of not really fair to your customers to come out with something so soon that’s only incrementally better. So we really do want to wait for a generational leap in compute without sacrificing battery life before we ship the real second generation of Steam Deck. But it is something that we’re excited about and we’re working on.”

Yang says Valve is “working on” the second generation of the Steam Deck, but it is unclear in what capacity. It sounds like the tech isn’t there right now, so it is presumably more in a conceptual and prototyping capacity. However, this is not exactly clear. Whatever the case, it doesn’t sound like the Steam Deck 2 is on the horizon. While it isn’t on the horizon though, it is something Valve is clearly committed to releasing. In other words it’s not a matter of if with the Steam Deck 2, but when.

One of 2024’s top rated Steam games is on sale for just $1.33, with proceeds set to go charity. The deal specifically comes the way of Humble Bundle, who is set to donate the proceeds specifically to World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization that addresses food insecurity around the world during and after natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

Because the deal comes via Humble Bundle though, this deal is only available as part of a bundle that requires you to pay $4 for three Steam games, $10 for five Steam games, or $12 for seven Steam games. The cheapest route to the game game is no doubt the $4 bundle route, which effectively means paying $1.33 for each game inside.

One of these three games is Lone Ruin, which is a bit of a toss away, but the other two are quite good and quite popular. One of these is 2017’s Ruiner. And the other game is 2024’s Windowkill.

Developed and self-published by Torcado, Windowkill released back on February 23, 2024, and it is apparently quite good. To this end, it boasts an “Overwhelmingly Positive” Steam User Review score, thanks a 96 percent approval rating across 1,827 user reviews. With this rating, it is among the highest rated games released on Steam this year.

“Windowkill is a twin-stick shooter, but the game window itself is constantly closing in on you,” reads an official description of the game on Steam, for those unfamiliar with it. “This game is experimental, your screen itself is the play area. Windows move and shift around on your screen as you play.”

Those interested in checking this game out now that it is dirt cheap should expect an experience that can be beaten in about 90 minutes. However, those who want to engage with the side content will want more like seven hours with the game.

Meanwhile, those on Steam Deck who are thinking about checking this out should be warned that the game’s Steam page lists Steam Deck compatibility as “unknown.” It could run perfectly on Steam Deck or not at all, or likely somewhere in-between. Right now though, we don’t know.

Baldur’s Gate games are currently ridiculously cheap via Fanatical. Because the deal comes the way of Fanatical, which deals in Steam keys, there is nothing here for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch owners. For Steam users though, there is considerable savings to be had.

What is — unfortunately — not included in the deals are Baldur’s Gate 3. It will be many, many years before Baldur’s Gate 3 could be as cheap as a couple dollars, if it will ever be this cheap. This is how cheap the first two games in the series are though, at least for the next 24 hours, as the deal is set to expire on October 21.

More specifically, Fanatical right now has Baldur’s Gate I & II Pack for $3.99, down considerably from its normal $39.99 price point. This means paying only $2 for each of Baldur’s Gate and its sequel.

It is worth noting that this deal not only expires tomorrow but is contingent on supplies not running out. This means, hypothetically, supplies could run out before the timer runs out, but right now 95 percent of supply remains available, so this is unlikely to occur. Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection now finally has a release date after being confirmed for a worldwide release earlier this year, and even better than that, Yu-Gi-Oh! fans have more games to look forward to now that the collection’s grown even larger. Konami announced this week that the Yu-Gi-Oh! bundle of at least eight games so far will be released on February 27, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch and PC platforms. All of the games announced as of now come from the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance eras, and Konami says that there are still more to come before the Yu-Gi-Oh! collection releases.

When the Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection was first announced, it included only a couple of games, but it’s since grown significantly with today’s additions only making it larger still. Konami announced on Thursday that the collection of Yu-Gi-Oh! classics will now also include Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction which are all from the Game Boy Advance. For those who played the older Yu-Gi-Oh! games originally, you may recall that Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul is often regarded as one of the best classic games in the series, so having that included in the Early Days Collection is both a no-brainer but also a huge deal.

As of today, the current lineup of Yu-Gi-Oh! games in the Early Days Collection includes Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelists, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 6: Expert 2, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II : Dark Duel Stories, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories in addition to the three new games announced today. While the total number of games planned for the game hasn’t really been circulated through all of the announcements like this one, a past press release shared by Konami’s Japanese socials said that the final version of the Early Days Collection would include more than 10 Yu-Gi-Oh! games. We’re up to eight now, so with so many already included, if there’s a classic game that’s missing from this list, there’s a good chance we’ll see it added to the list before the Early Days Collection releases. Some of the games mentioned above were previously only available in Japan, too, so if you’re an avid Yu-Gi-Oh! player or a collection, the Eraly Days Collection is the perfect way to remedy any gaps in your library.

Though the Early Days Collection won’t be out until February, preorders are already up and available at certain retailers if you want to secure your copy early. It’s going for $49.99, according to those preorders, which isn’t a bad deal at all for a collection that comes with 10+ games. In line with pretty much every major Yu-Gi-Oh! game from before, the Early Days Collection will also come with some preorder bonuses in the form of physical Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. Two different versions of the iconic Harpie’s Feather Duster card will be up for grabs with one randomly included in physical versions of the game if you preorder it.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection will be out on February 27, 2025, with more games to be announced for the collection between now and then.

The Saints Row games are currently on sale and dirt cheap. Unfortunately, while the series has featured on consoles in the past — including PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, and Nintendo consoles — the deals in question are limited to PC. And this is because they come the way of Fanatical, a third-party seller of Steam keys.

The highlight of these deals is for Saints Row 2, which normally costs $9.99 on Steam, but with Fanatical, Steam users can currently grab it for $2.19. Elsewhere, Saints Row: The Third, plus all its DLC, is on sale for $5.09, 66 percent off its normal $14.99 asking price (the remaster is also on sale, but for $5.99). And then Saints Row IV: Re-Elected is now only $4.59, down from $19.99.

The Saints Row deals don’t end there though. Saints Row: Gat out of Hell is currently available for $3.29, down from $14.99. Lastly, there are deals on various editions of the recent reboot. The cheapest of these deals is for the Standard version, of course. Normally it costs $29.99 on Steam, but is $7.49 via Fanatical.

Unfortunately, the first Saints Row game is missing from these deals, but otherwise the entire series is here and available for cheap. That said, all of the deals are set to expire within the next 36 hours.

“Ultimately, Saints Row may not be the grand return to the franchise that fans were hoping for, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth giving a look,” reads a snippet from our review of the most recent, and aforementioned, Saints Row reboot. “Despite a poorly-paced story with average characters, it still has a ton of content and a sandbox that is ripe for hours of co-op fun. Even if you’re playing solo, building a criminal empire is empowering and elevates Saints Row beyond being yet another open-world crime game. If it didn’t take some steps back or feel buggy and dated, this game would get a more glowing recommendation, but unfortunately, it doesn’t hit all of its marks.”

Of course, with Volition — the developer behind the series — now shut down, it remains to be seen what will come of Saints Row. To this end, the games above may be all fans of Saints Row have for a while.

Satisfactory is a complicated game, complete with many systems and features that have kept players of the PC game busy since it came to Steam Early Access all the way back in 2019. To this end, Satisfactory players continue to regularly discover new features in the game they had no idea existed, and this past week has been no exception.

Whether these features were added with the 1.0 release last month or whether they have been in the game since 2019 or added sometime in-between these two events, we don’t know. All we know is there are two features players shared over on the game’s Reddit page this week that the majority of said Reddit page had no idea about. And if the fans on Reddit who have sunk 100s, if not 1000s of hours into the game don’t know about these features, it is safe to assume many more casual fans don’t know either.

The first of these two features getting lots of attention on the Satisfactory Reddit page is a double revelation, actually. First, players had no idea that you could turn lights on and off by using the clapping emote. More than this, many other players didn’t even know there was an emote wheel in the game, which — for those that don’t know — is accessed by holding down “T.”

The other feature is a bit more useful. In fact, it is one of the best quality-of-life features in the game, yet players in the comments with over 2,000 hours in some cases had no idea about it. And this feature is the ability to splice a connector into the middle of an existing wire without breaking the existing connection. This is a fairly small feature, yet a game-changing feature for those that don’t know about.

Again, these are brand-new discoveries. These have been documented before, as evident by the game’s Wiki. However, it seems many, if not most, if not just about all, Satisfactory players didn’t know about either of these features, which is why they have received so much attention on the game’s Reddit page.

2K’s BioShock, which is widely considered to be one of the greatest games of all-time, is now free to own and keep forever. For the most part, the BioShock series has been on ice for the past decade. Outside of a remastered collection that released in 2016, the last mainline installment in the franchise, BioShock Infinite, launched in 2013. Now, for those who might be unfamiliar with the series but have always wanted to jump in, a new deal is way too good to pass up.

As of now, the remastered version of the original BioShock is free to download on PC. The offer comes by way of Prime Gaming and is part of a promotion that will last until January 8, 2025. Those who redeem this deal will then be given a code that can be redeemed on GOG for PC.

The caveat with this BioShock offer is that it’s only “free” if you’re subscribed to Amazon Prime. As a result, the offer is technically one that you have to pay for in some capacity. Given how many millions of people around the globe already have active subscriptions to Amazon Prime, though, this is a deal that many will likely qualify for as it is.

Moving forward, a new BioShock entry is known to currently be in the works at developer Cloud Chamber. Details on its launch still haven’t come about, though, as 2K has been particularly quiet about its creation. In the interim, former BioShock director Ken Levine is working on Judas, which has a lot in common with the other entries in the series. Judas still doesn’t have a release date but it’s likely going to arrive in 2025.

One of the best games of all time is $1 on Steam. Better yet, so its predecessor, which also ranks among of the best games of all time. The former hails from 2011, a year that treated gamers to the likes of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, LittleBigPlanet 2, Rayman Origins, Gears of War 3, Super Mario 3D Land, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Limbo, Dead Space 2, Total War: Shogun 2, L.A. Noire, Mortal Kombat, Pokemon Black and White, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

There were so many great games in 2011 that we could name even more. In fact, the 2011 lineup was so loaded that you didn’t even notice that we didn’t mention Portal 2, which is not just among the best games of 2011, but of all time, as evident by its 95 on Metacritic.

To a slightly lesser degree, the same can also be said about its 2007’s predecessor, Portal. Unlike its successor though, which is literally one of the highest-rated games on Metacritic, the first Portal only has a 90 on Metacritic, which is a great score, but not quite enough to be a part of the best-scoring Metacritic games of all time.

Those who have somehow never played these two classics from Valve can right this wrong for only $2, as each game is currently $0.99 on Steam. Naturally, these deals are only available for a limited time though. More specifically, they are only available until October 17.

Of course, as Valve games both don’t just run on the Steam Deck, but have been “Verified” for the Steam Deck. In other words, Valve ensures they run as intended on the Steam Deck.

With the Holiday season ahead, there is a good chance these games will be discounted again before the end of the year, though it remains to be seen if they will be discounted to $1 again before the end of the year. Both normally run at $10, so this represents a savings of 90 percent.

Steam users have until October 12 two grab two games for free. In other words, the free Steam games are only available for less than 24 hours. More specifically, the free games offer is set to expire tomorrow at 1:00 p.m ET. After this, each game will revert back to its normal price point.

Steam Deck users trying to get in on the free game action may find the compatibility of each free game challenging. The one is listed as “playable,” which indicates the Steam Deck runs the game, but users may run into configuration issues. Meanwhile, the Steam Deck compatibility of the other free Steam game is listed as “unknown.” This means it could run well, run terribly, or not run at all on the handheld Valve machine.

The first of the two free Steam games is called Castle Break from Pauloondra. It was released back in 2019 as the debut project from Pauloondra, which is set to release its second game next month, on November 4, called Zero Orders Tactics.

On Steam, the game has 197 user reviews, 89 percent of which are positive, giving the game a “Very Positive” rating, which is the second highest rating a game can earn on Steam. That said, 109 of these user reviews have come since the game has been made free. No doubt this plays a major role in its rating. For Steam Deck users, this is the one listed as “unknown” in regards to Steam Deck compatibility.

“Arkanoid Air Hockey with explosions, shooting and building. Use your mouse like an air hockey striker to kick enemy bombs back into the evil Black Castle,” reads an official blurb about the game for those unfamiliar with it. “Destroy enemy towers with bombs, rockets, and lasers, because they are evil. Don’t forget to protect your little dudes – you need them to win.”

The other new free Steam game is called Minimalism. It was released back in 2017 from developer PixelMouse. At the time, it was the developer’s second of three games. The other two games are 2016’s Distant Space and 2017’s Distant Space 2.

On Steam, the game — which is listed as “playable” on Steam Deck — has 2,338 user reviews, which is much more than the other free Steam game. Only 72 percent of these reviews are positive though, earning the game just a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam. Also unlike the other free Steam game, its recent reviews actually have a lower average score, so it being free has not actually helped boost its user score at all. Rather, it has done the opposite, oddly enough.

“Minimalism – platformer with a lot of levels, made in minimalist style – which is a cube protagonist,” reads an official blurb about the game. “The game is a kind of labyrinth consisting of levels, to go between them you need to open the doors with collected keys.”

One of the highest-rated games in the history of publisher Bethesda is now free to download for millions. Since being established all the way back in 1986, Bethesda has produced some of the most acclaimed video games ever. Titles like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Dishonored, Hi-Fi Rush, Wolfenstein, and Prey have all come from Bethesda and have been met with rousing reviews from players and critics alike. Now, one of Bethesda’s more recent games is up for grabs at no cost in a deal that will last a little more than a month.

Over on Prime Gaming, DOOM Eternal is now completely free to obtain from now until November 13th. The copy of the game isn’t for PlayStation or Xbox, but is instead for PC, specifically on the Microsoft Store. Obviously, the caveat here is that DOOM Eternal is only “free” for those who happen to have an Amazon Prime subscription, but given how common this is, it’s a promotion that tens of millions of people should be able to take advantage of.

Released in 2020, DOOM Eternal is the latest entry in the storied first-person shooter series from developer id Software. It also received incredibly impressive reviews upon its release a little more than four years ago and currently sits at an 88/100 aggregate review score on Metacritic. In the history of Bethesda, this makes DOOM Eternal one of the ten highest-rated games that the publisher has ever launched.

One particularly great thing about DOOM: Eternal being free is that it’s happening right before DOOM: The Dark Ages. The latest installment in the DOOM saga, The Dark Ages, was revealed earlier in 2024 and is set to release next year. Details on the game are still sparse but it is known to be a prequel that takes place prior to the events of Eternal and will feature more medieval-inspired weaponry. If you haven’t played DOOM Eternal yet for yourself, now is a fantastic chance to catch up before The Dark Ages drops in 2025.

Prime Gaming subscribers are getting plenty of new games from Amazon in October, and naturally, many of those are geared towards Halloween (or are at least spooky enough to justify them being given away right now). The first batch of those free Prime Gaming games are being given away right now with 12 of the 28 available via the PC platform across different launchers with games like Doom Eternal and BioShock Remastered among the starting lineup. The rest of the games will be given out during three more drops throughout October with the final one happening on Halloween.

Doom Eternal and BioShock Remastered are the highlights in that they’re the most recognizable of the games, but there are plenty of other Prime Gaming standouts during October as well. The 2006 Tomb Raider game called Tomb Raider: Legend will be one of this month’s free games, for example, alongside others like Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Ecto Edition and Killing Floor 2. Towards the end of the month, we’ll see games like Gargoyles Remastered, A Plague Tale: Innocence, and Scorn all given away. Scorn, you’ll recall, was the very eerie and body horror-focused Xbox exclusive that released back in 2022. It takes some time to get used to, but if you’re looking for a unique Halloween experience, look no further than Scorn.

In tandem with Backyard Baseball ’97 today releasing on PC, publisher Playground Productions has announced that five more games from the Backyard Sports series will soon be getting remasters of their own. Earlier this year, Playground Productions revealed that it was planning a major revival of the Backyard Sports franchise which began in the late 1990’s on PC. And while it seems that wholly new Backyard Sports games are in the works, Playground continues to focus on remastering the most popular games in the series before releasing anything else.

As of today, listings for Backyard Soccer ’98, Backyard Football ’99, Backyard Baseball ’01, Backyard Basketball ’01, and Backyard Hockey ’02 have all appeared on Steam. For now, all five titles are said to simply be “Coming Soon” and don’t have more well-defined release windows. Like Backyard Baseball ’97, which is available to play today, they all will boast a handful of modern features while still keeping the core experience of each intact.

If these future Backyard Sports games are anything like Backyard Baseball ’97, then they might arrive relatively soon. Backyard Baseball ’97 was only announced to be coming to Steam a couple of weeks ago, which means the turn around from its reveal to launch was a quick one. In all likelihood, though, Playground Productions will want to space these games out a bit from one another to ensure that each sells well enough on its own.

Backyard Soccer ’98

Epic Games Store has not one, but two free games for all EGS users to download between now and October 17. Unfortunately, this week’s free Epic Games Store games are not as notable as most weeks, though there is a new horror game for those on PC looking for a new horror game to play in the build-up to Halloween or during Halloween.

The more notable of the two free Epic Games Store games — at least in terms of popularity and price point — is the non-horror game, Empyrion – Galactic Survival. The 2020 survival-sandbox game set in space from Eleon Game Studios normally costs $19.99.

The other new free game is Outliver: Tribulation, a survival-horror game meets a Souls-like game from GBROSSOFT. It released back in 2023, and normally costs $7.99. Combined, this week’s Epic Games Store free games save PC gamers $28, assuming each game would be bought at full price.

An upcoming Steam game — which is to say, a Steam game not even out yet — is free to download right now, for the next 24 hours. How much the game will cost when it releases, we don’t know, but it won’t be free. It is only free until October 11 at 10 a.m. ET. What’s also unclear is when it will release, as the game is simply slated for a “2024” release. It is possible it will release once this free download period completes, but this isn’t specified one way or another. What we definitively know is the game is not out yet on Steam, but it can be downloaded early, for free.

The mystery free Steam game in question is called Unplagued from developer Euphoric Brothers, who is also serving as the publisher of the free Steam game. Those who have never heard of the developer, they have released a variety of games since debuting in 2021. To date, their best known work is Garten of Banban and its various sequels.

As for Unplagued, it is pitched as four-player multiplayer co-op medieval horror game. Like many popular new horror games with mutliplayer elements on Steam, it features proximity chat. Whether it is any good though, we don’t know, because there aren’t any Steam user reviews for the game yet.

“With a team of up to four companions, purge the plague infecting the procedurally generated medieval villages,” reads an official description of the game on Steam. “The plague has already settled in the lands and the villagers and creatures residing within have mutated into horrors beyond imagination. Discover and collect ingredients and find the right combination to create the cure as you travel from village to village.”

As for whether the free Steam game supports the Steam Deck, we don’t know. The game’s Steam listing lists Steam Deck compatibility as “unknown.” So it could run well on Steam Deck, it could run terribly, or it may not run at all.

Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles is getting new life with a re-release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X on January 23, 2025. The new release is an enhanced version of the original 2000 Star Wars game of the same name.

For those that don’t know: Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles was released on the PS1, then the Sega Dreamcast and Game Boy Advance, back in 2000 via LucasArts. Upon release, it didn’t review that well, nor did it hang with some of the Star Wars commercial hits of this tine. Yet, Aspyr clearly thinks there is enough interest to re-release it because that is exactly what it is doing, making it the latest Star Wars re-release from the developer.

“Take back the Theed Palace in this fast and furious lightsaber action game,” reads an official blurb about the game. “You will have the power of the Force and your trusty lightsaber to help you ward off legions of battle droids, destroyer droids, assassins, and other creatures from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”

The game’s official description continues: “Play as Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon, Adi Gallia, or Qui-Gon Jinn facing off against droids and other familiar foes from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Or, play as one of the previously locked characters such as Darth Maul, Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala, Ki-Adi Mundi, and the Battle Droid, now available from the start!”

The re-release will include two-player couch co-op and a new game plus mode. Meanwhile, players will have the option to use new, modern controls or use the classic controls.

Steam users can currently grab a survival game for just $0.99, thanks to a new deal. That said, those interested in picking up the Steam game will need to act fast as the deal is only available for a limited time. More specifically, it is available for another 37 hours at the moment of writing this, which means it will expire on October 10. However, the deal could expire before this if supplies run at. Currently, 80 percent of stock remains available, but this could change very quickly.

Normally, stock isn’t an issue when buying directly from Steam, but this deal comes the way of Fanatical, a third-party seller of Steam keys. Because of this, there isn’t unlimited supply like when buying directly from Steam. For those that have never used Fanatical, it is very reputable and reliable, and is also currently offering 5 percent off your next order, allowing you to get this deal for even cheaper.

As for Steam Deck compatibility, the game in question does indeed run on the Steam Deck. Valve specifically lists the game as “playable” on Steam Deck, which is different than “verified.” According to Valve, the former indicates the game is functional on Steam Deck, however, it may require extra effort to interact with and configure.

For those interested, the game is The Wild Eight from developer Eight Points and publisher HypeTrain Digital. If this is your first time hearing about the game, it was released back in 2019 and it is an action-adventure game with survival gameplay.

On Steam, it has amassed 6,033 user reviews to date, 71 percent of which are positive, giving the game a “Mostly Positive” Steam User Review rating. Below, you can read more about the Steam game and check out an official trailer for it as well.

Those that decide to check out The Wild Eight now that it is less than one dollar on Steam, should expect a game that is about 9 to 14 hours long. Completionists will need substantially longer than this though. More specifically, those looking to 100% the Steam game will need closer to 30 hours with it.

After what felt like countless leaks over the past couple of months, the original Red Dead Redemption is finally coming to the PC platform. Rockstar Games announced plans this week to release Red Dead Redemption on both the Steam and Epic Games Store platforms on October 29th to add to an already very busy month for video game releases. As Red Dead Redemption players expected, the PC version of the game will come with support for features like a 4K resolution, ultrawide monitors, and more to set it apart from the console versions of the game.

Rockstar Games shared a new trailer for the PC version of Red Dead Redemption alongside the announcement to show what the game looks like finally running on that platform over 14 years after it first released. To develop the PC version of the game, Rockstar Games said it worked with Double Eleven, the it partnered with for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions of Red Dead Redemption with the studio also boasting a history with the console versions of Fallout 76 and more.

In working with Double Eleven and utilizing some of the strengths of the PC platform, Rockstar laid out a few features that’ll be supported on PCs, assuming you’ve got the systems to accommodate them.

“In collaboration with Double Eleven, this new version adds PC-specific enhancements including native 4K resolution at up to 144hz on compatible hardware, monitor support for both Ultrawide (21:9) and Super Ultrawide (32:9), HDR10 support, and full keyboard and mouse functionality,” Rockstar Games said. “There’s also support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0 upscaling technologies, NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation, adjustable draw distances, shadow quality settings, and more.”

Like the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions of the game, the Undead Nightmare add-on which was originally released as a separate DLC for Red Dead Redemption will instead just be included in the purchase. Far different from the more grounded natures of Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 after it, Undead Nightmare sees John Marston’s world overtaken by zombies. Red Dead Redemption got other DLCs after its release like the Liars and Cheats DLC which was more focused on card games and gambling, but Undead Nightmare is considered more of an expansion given that it introduces a totally new story.

Considering how many times we’ve seen through leaked listings and so on that Red Dead Redemption was coming to the PC platform, today’s announcement from Rockstar Games comes as little surprise even though it’s a welcome one. Red Dead Redemption 2 was already on PCs via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Rockstar’s own launcher, so especially after seeing Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare DLC brought forward to more modern platforms like the Nintendo Switch, a PC release was all but guaranteed.

Of course, with the release of Red Dead Redemption on the PC platform, this means that we’re about to see a huge influx of mods for the game. PC players have found ways to play the game in the past through things like emulators, but there’s been no authentic way to play it on the PC which meant basically nothing in the way of mods. That’ll be a thing of the past when Red Dead Redemption comes to the PC later this month, however. A quick look at Red Dead Redemption 2‘s Nexus Mods page shows that some of the top mods of all time are ones that let players rob any bank in the game as well as one that lets players show off fancy weapon tricks found in Red Dead Redemption 2‘s online mode. Other mods expand the bounty system or overhaul the crime and law enforcement features in Red Dead Redemption 2, so while not all of those will be applicable to Red Dead Redemption, it paints a picture of what players might get after modders have some time with the game.

Red Dead Redemption comes to the PC platform via Steam, Epic Games, and the Rockstar Store on October 29th.

The Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero release date is still three days away. Ahead of the game’s October 10 release date though, the first reviews for the new Dragon Ball game on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X have posted. And judging by the Metacritic score, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is set to be one of the biggest Dragon Ball games to date. To couple its strong pre-order numbers and general interest, it is reviewing well.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero reviews are still coming in, but so far the game boasts an 85 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic. Of course, over time, as more reviews post, this score could change. Further, this is just the score for the PS5 version, as the bulk of reviews so far have been posted for the PS5 version rather than the PC and Xbox versions.

With an 85, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is not the highest-rated Dragon Ball game of all time, but it is certainly near the top as the series has a dodgy history complete with many underwhelming releases.

Zero is cumulatively both a brand new experience for Dragon Ball fans, but one that will also feel incredibly familiar to anyone who has played a Dragon Ball game in the last 20 years. “Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero takes the legendary gameplay of the Budokai Tenkaichi series and raises it to whole new levels,” reads an official blurb about the game for those unfamiliar with it. “Learn and master an incredible roster of playable characters, each with signature abilities, transformations, and techniques. Make yours the destructive power of the strongest fighters ever to appear in Dragon Ball!“

Satisfactory players have discovered a new feature that nobody knew existed. To this end, even the game’s official wiki didn’t know about this feature, which appears to be the first documented instance of it. The popular Steam game has been available in some form, thanks to early access, since 2019. It wasn’t until last month that Satisfactory 1.0 finally released, bringing back many players. Those jumping back into the game will find a lot has changed over the years in early access. Meanwhile, even those that have been playing since the game’s debut are discovering new things.

To this end, one of the top recent posts on the game’s Reddit page is a post revealing a feature that — as noted — was unknown until this Reddit post revealed it. More specifically, the Redditor reveals that you can talk to ADA using the in-game chat. How long this has been in the game, is unclear. It is possible it was added with the 1.0 release, but this is just speculation. It is also possible it has been in the game for a while and has only recently been discovered and documented.

“This game just keeps surprising me,” reads one of the top comments. Another comment adds: “I have not seen this mentioned yet. It would be interesting to see what kind of responses you get to questions or comments. I have added it to the wiki.

It is possible other players knew about this before this Reddit post, but if the players on the game’s Reddit page didn’t know about this feature, and if the game’s wiki didn’t know about this feature, it is safe to assume — at the very least — 99.9% of those that have played the game didn’t know about this feature, which of course isn’t game-changing, but it makes you wonder what other features are in the game that are flying under everyone’s radar?

Throne and Liberty players have been warned by developer NCSoft that they may be playing an old version of the game or, more specifically, the Open Beta version of the game, rather than the live, up-to-date version of the free-to-play MMORPG. Those playing on PC, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X seemingly don’t have anything to worry about though, as this only appears to be an issue on PS5. Meanwhile, those on PS5 don’t have to stress the issue much because there is an easy solution. 

Using the game’s official X account, NCSoft relayed word that the game on PS5 may try to default to the Open Beta version. Why it would do this — and why this is only a problem on the PS5 — NCSoft does not say. That said, those on PS5 should check to make sure they have not been playing the Open Beta version this whole time. That said, those that never played the Open Beta on PS5 don’t even have to worry about this problem in the first place, only those that did. 

“If you’re on PS5 and had the Throne and Liberty Open Beta on your console, it may try to default you to that version when trying to play. Please ensure when opening the game that you select the live version and not the Open Beta,” reads the post. “To do this select the three dot menu and ensure that you are launching the correct version. You are also able to delete the Open Beta client if you would like to avoid future confusion.”

Those having trouble differentiating between the Beta and Live version should highlight the Beta app, select the three dots, then select the PS5 version, not the PS5 Beta version. And this should solve the issue going forward. 

How many PS5 players have been playing the old Open Beta version since the game was released on October 1, we don’t know, but it was clearly enough that developer NCSoft felt the need to say something. It remains unclear if the Open Beta version will ever be removed for that players don’t have to check which version they are playing.

The new Until Dawn remake on PC and PS5 doesn’t just make the game prettier, it makes some changes to the original PS4 game. This includes some of the game’s content, which come as a surprise to many players. To this end, a major scene in the original game has been reworked in the remake. Some fans like the changed scene, others not so much. 

One of the top posts on the Until Dawn Reddit page right now, a day after the remake’s release, is a post talking about the scene in question. For those that haven’t played the remake yet, spoilers ahead. If you noticed the scene where Chris is locked out by Ashley, and subsequently dies, feels different, it is because it is. 

In the remake, now Ashley is much further from the door. Meanwhile, Chris is banging on the door, and as he does this, Ashley paces around and stares at him for a moment before deciding to sprint towards him to open the door and try and save him. Obviously, she is too late and then she starts crying. This is not how this scene went in the original. In the original, Ashley does not express the same type of remorse and emotion, as you will know if you played it. 

As the post notes, the scene feels more realistic and realized as a result of the changes, however, it also feels like a retcon. The developers behind the original noted that Ashley left Chris outside on purpose, hinting at a darker side of the character. That is completely gone from this scene. In other words, while the end result of the scene isn’t very different, the implications for the characters involved are. 

“What a horrible change. I liked how Ashley can be twisted and sociopathic. Why would they change that,” reads one comment on the post above. “Also Ashley’s facial expressions in that scene was weird asf. It has no emotions at all

“Holy s***??? I’m honestly disappointed, to be honest. I need to see it for myself, but I hate how they try to make Ashley empathetic. She’s a monster in a pretty mask, and that’s why she’s so interesting and great,” reads another comment. 

The general consensus — at least among the fans on the game’s Reddit page, aka some of the game’s most hardcore fans — is the change is for the worse. While the scene may play better, it obviously completely changes the intent of the original, completely erasing the hidden dark side of Ashley. Over the years, some have slammed the scene as out of character for Ashley, but a remake changing the original intent never usually goes down well, and this has been no exception.

The Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay just got worse. Late last month, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Shadows was being delayed from its previous release date to February 14, 2025. And considering how important of a release this is for a struggling Ubisoft in bad sorts right now, we aren’t surprised it has decided the game needs more time in the oven. What many fail to realize is the implications of this delay don’t end with just the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. 

According to a new report, the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to delay the whole franchise pipeline. The report in question cites an internal email from Marc-Alexis Côté, an executive producer on the series, which reportedly notes the delay “will also impact the rest of the Assassin’s Creed roadmap.” What specific games this is, the email doesn’t say, but the report mentions one. 

The report mentions specifically that the rumored Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is scheduled to release in November 2025, but this date could now be pushed back to 2026. Ubisoft is also supposedly aiming to release the rumored Assassin’s Creed multiplayer game, Assassin’s Creed Invictus, in the same window, but this could now be delayed into 2026 as well. 

All of this comes from Tom Henderson via Insider Gaming. For those that don’t know, Henderson is one of the premier sources in the industry, especially when it comes to Ubisoft. Typically, he is very reliable. Despite this, everything here should still be taken with a grain of salt. 

At the moment of publishing, Ubisoft has not touched the report nor the speculation it has created with any type of comment. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly. That said, we don’t anticipate this changing as it rarely comments on rumors and speculation. 

What is concrete is that Assassin’s Creed Shadows won’t be out until February 14, 2025 at the earliest. There is a lot riding on this release for Ubisoft who needs a commercial success after Star Wars Outlaws and many of its other recent games have flopped. The delay certainly indicates some reservations that the game is going to be this hugely successful release for the French games maker.

Throne and Liberty is out on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, and currently, it is one of the most popular games in the world. Whether the new MMO meets RPG from NCSoft will be able to maintain this early momentum and finally established a new MMO on the scene, remains to be seen. So far, user reviews for the game are mixed on Steam and elsewhere, but this isn’t entirely uncommon for large online games that suffer from server issues at launch, as well as bugs, performance problems, and a lack of content. All of this improves over time. 

Those that are enjoying the game are enjoying a wide range of things, including the various quality-of-life features the game has. To this end, the top post on the game’s Reddit page is a post praising one of these quality-of-life features, which also happens to be quite the impressive feat from NCSoft.

More specifically, players have had their minds blown playing the game and witnessing the lack of loading screens, which is impressive for any game, but especially an MMO, which has lots of server pings, crossing wires, and reason to be riddled with loading screens. 

“Feel like this game is gonna set the bar for quality-of-life features in MMOs, feels leagues ahead of the other the other big names,” reads one of the comments on the post above. 

Of course, in the video above there is technically a loading screen, and on console, especially at launch, it is longer. The little purple vortex is to hide a loading screen. So there is a loading screen, it is just so fast here that for all intents and purposes there might as well not be any. 

“I mean, there is a loading screen, it’s the purple ‘traveling through a vortex”‘animation where the camera looks upwards.But for OP that lasted like 0.05s in this clip which is frankly amazing,” reads another comment on the post above.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is out on October 8 via PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Ahead of this, those interested in revisiting the modern take on the all-time horror classic can currently save 22% — $15 on a purchase — by pre-ordering. And considering the high review scores the remake is earning, horror fans may want to do just that. There will be other horror releases this month, but it looks like Halloween 2024 will be owned by Bloober Team and Konami. 

Unfortunately, those on console have no such pre-order option. The game can be pre-ordered on PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, but for the full $69.99. Those on PC can grab it for $54.49, but not via Steam or even its biggest competitors, GOG and Epic Games Store. Rather the deal comes via Green Man Gaming, which deals in Steam codes. In other words, PC users can buy the game directly from Steam for $69.99, or get a Steam code from Green Man Gaming for $54.49.

How long this deal is going to be available, remains to be seen. It is likely as supplies last or until the game releases, whichever comes first, but this is not specified by the retailer. Of course, the game could very well be cheaper come the holiday season, but not much cheaper. a 22 percent discount is a pretty meaty discount, and the game is unlikely to be much cheaper until 2025.

A horror game on Steam is getting nearly perfect reviews from those who have played it. Obviously, this comes at a great time as it is October, when consumption of spooky media increases because of Halloween. To this end, if those on Steam want a new horror game to play to kick off October, they have two options. There is the new Until Dawn remaster, which is getting mixed reviews on Steam, or they have the lesser-known, but higher-rated Mouthwashing. 

The new horror game comes from developer Wrong Organ, which many may not know, partially because this is only its second release. Its first release came back in 2022, and it was equally strange. It was called How Fish Is Made, and according to its own Steam user reviews, it is also quite good. To date, it has 3,454 user reviews, 95 percent of which are positive. This gives the game an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating. Mouthwashing also has this thanks to 96 percent of 1,328 reviews being positive. Overwhelmingly Positive is the highest rating a game can earn on Steam. Meanwhile, a 96 percent approval rate is a feat a couple releases a year, max, are able to achieve. 

“Mouthwashing is a first-person horror game following the dying crew of a shipwrecked space freighter,” reads an official description of the game for those unfamiliar with it. “Who could have known what good ol’ Captain Curly was capable of? Guess he thought his crew dying alongside him was only right. But some men can’t even kill themselves properly. Maimed, limbless and unable to speak, but alive, Curly is now at the mercy of the crew he has doomed to a slow death.”

Those that decide to check out Mouthwashing based on the positive reviews it is getting, will need to fork over $11.69. For this, Steam users can expect a game that is about two to four hours long, which is short, even by horror game standards, but this is reflected in the price point. Meanwhile, it is unclear if the game comes with Steam Deck compatibility, as this feature is listed as “Unknown” on the game’s Steam page.

GTA San Andreas is a high point in the series for many Grand Theft Auto fans, partially because of its 1990s story and setting ripe with gang culture. Since its release, we haven’t seen a Grand Theft Auto game that puts the same type of emphasis on gang culture and everything that comes with it. And we don’t expect this to change, for a handful of reasons. 

Over on Reddit, one of the top posts on the very active and popular GTA 6 Reddit page is a post pleading with Rockstar Games to bring back gang territory warfare with GTA 6. While this was a pillar of GTA San Andreas’ story and gameplay, we don’t think it will be with GTA 6. 

First of all, neither of the game’s protagonists, Lucia and Jason, seem to have any gang affiliations, and if they do, it is not as evident and central to the character as with CJ in GTA San Andreas. So, how would players participate in gang warfare if there is no narrative explanation for it? 

Two, Miami does not have the same type of gang culture that Los Angeles does, let alone 1990s Los Angeles. In modern day Los Angeles there is estimated to be over 450 different gangs. In Miami, the estimate is around 70. In other words, not only from a characters perspective does it not make sense, but it makes less sense from a setting perspective. There are some prominent gangs in Miami, but it is not to the same level as Los Angeles. 

Lastly, there is also the timeline. A 90s gang story makes much more sense than a modern gang story. 90s gang culture, especially of the west coast variety, is iconic, both audibly and visually. This just isn’t the case in the modern era. 

There will no doubt be gangs present in GTA 6, and likely some missions and content involving the various gangs of Vice City. Though, with Miami, there is every chance if this happens it would be international gangs from Central and South America and not domestic. Whatever the case, Rockstar Games is not just going to bring back gang turf wars unless it fits with the broader themes and tone the game is going for. And so far, nothing about GTA 6 suggests gang culture is at the center of the game.

The Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team and Konami is out next week, but reviews have started dropping already to give a peek into the new version of the 2001 horror game. Given that Silent Hill is nearly up there with Resident Evil in terms of how survival-horror fans revere the franchise, it’d be an understatement to say that there was pressure on Bloober Team to get the game right. Fortunately for Bloober Team as well as Silent Hill fans, however, the Metacritic score that’s been given to the game so far shows that Silent Hill 2 players shouldn’t have much to worry about next next week when the game drops on November 8th.

As of right now, Silent Hill 2 has a score of 87 on Metacritic. That’s based on just shy of 50 reviews for the PS5 version which gave it a 87 as well on that platform, though the PC version of Silent Hill 2 was just a smidge higher at 88 with only five reviews there. There is of course no Xbox version to speak of since Silent Hill 2 skipped the Xbox Series X|S with no word yet as to whether or not it’ll ever come to that platform.

Silent Hill 2 got five perfect scores of 100 which is probably not something that many Silent Hill fans were expecting at all prior to these reviews dropping. The majority of the reviews are indeed positive and praise Bloober Team’s respect for the original Silent Hill 2 while also calling it a welcome return to form for the franchise as well as a perfect launch point for newcomers who’ve never really dabbled in Silent Hill before.

The Metacritic reviews thus far include no negative scores for Silent Hill 2, only a few mixed ones. Some of those suggest that the remake perhaps stayed too close to the original Silent Hill 2 and ended up keeping some of its more frustrating and restrictive parts. Thankfully for Silent Hill 2 players, those reviews are in the minority with only a fraction of them mixed compared to the overall positive reviews.

Aside from the fact that Silent Hill 2 was revered in its franchise and its broader genre since release, the fact that Bloober Team was in charge of the remake admittedly turned some into skeptics. Bloober Team made games like Layers of Fear, The Medium, and the Blair Witch game with none of those earning exceptionally high review scores regardless of the game being reviewed. Silent Hill 2 will perhaps be a turning point in the perception of Bloober Team, however.

Our own review of Silent Hill 2 is on the way as well but was put behind a bit by getting our review copy later in the review process. But even as more reviews trickle in, it’s unlikely that the remainder will drop the Silent Hill 2 Metacritic score by any meaningful amount, so Silent Hill 2 players should have plenty to look forward to next week.

Satisfactory is a game that Steam users have been dumping 100s of hours into since the game first released in early access back in 2019, which was finally follow-up by a 1.0 release last month. Not only is it a game easy to lose track of time playing, but its systems and gameplay loop is so immense and complex that players routinely discover new things about the game, such as handy features, even after an exorbitant amount of time with the Steam game. 

To this end, after 833.2 hours with the game, a dedicated and hardcore Satisfactory player over on Reddit has just learned that you can nudge in 0.5 steps by using Ctrl and the arrow keys. And they weren’t the only one who didn’t know about this, a bunch of hardcore Satisfactory players had no idea about this handy feature. 

“Don’t feel too bad, I have over 2,500 hours logged and I only found out the other day I can press shift to speed up the zip line. There are always things to learn,” writes another fan. “Everyday I learn something new about this game what the heck,” writes another fan. 

Elsewhere in the same Reddit post, another player revealed they recently learned — after 400 hours with the game — that you can customize intricately what is loaded and unloaded from a train in the timetable menu. And there are more comments like this. 

Of course, if some of the most hardcore and dedicated Satisfactory players — who use the game’s Reddit page and rack up hundreds of hours playing the Steam title — don’t know about some of these handy features, it is safe to assume many more casual players don’t either. And when you consider there are a ton of features like these, that are handy but easy to miss, it is safe to assume a vast majority of players are nowhere near playing the game optimally.

Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has been working on the game’s Mori kill system for a while now, the one where Killer players are able to execute Survivors with a stylish flair under certain circumstances. In the most recent series of changes, Behaviour made it so that Killer players could kill off the final Survivor in a match after putting them in the dying state to give a round a much more cinematic conclusion, but in doing so, the offerings that’d let Killers Mori kill Survivors mid-match were reworked to basically be giant Bloodpoint bonuses instead.

While some Dead by Daylight players were in favor of this new Mori kill setup, many more weren’t happy with it at all. It would promote unhealthy behaviors from players seeking those massive Bloodpoint incentives, some said, while others wanted to continue seeking the thrill of pulling off a Mori kill in the middle of a match instead of it always being at the end of the game when the other Survivor players had tuned out.

After assessing that feedback, Behaviour decided to revert the changes for two offerings: the Ivory Memento Mori and Ebony Memento Mori Offerings. Instead of just granting big Bloodpoint bonuses when brought into a match, these two Mori-focused offerings will instead allow people to kill Survivors who have been hooked twice.

“We’ve received a lot of feedback about the changes made to the Ivory & Ebony Memento Mori Offerings during the PTB,” the latest Dead by Daylight patch notes explained. “This came down to the loss of mid-match kills & group photo opportunities, as well as concerns that the Bloodpoint reward would encourage unfun behaviour. With that in mind, we have reverted the changes to the Mori Offerings.”

Those two Mori offerings are the ones that allow for kills in the middle of a match regardless of how many Survivors are left, but another offering, the Cypress Memento Mori, is being retired completely. Its purpose was to grant Killers the ability to kill the last Survivor in a match once they were put in the dying state, and since the Mori system is being reworked so that you can do that for free, there’s no reason for this offering to exist anymore. As such, it’s being taken out of the game, and for those who have any Cypress Memento Moris they’re holding onto, you’ll get 1 million Bloodpoints just for logging into the game during a window in October.

“As a result, the Cypress Memento Mori Offering is now obsolete and will be retired,” the devs continued. “We will offer 1 Million Bloodpoints for any unused Offerings, which you can claim simply by logging in between October 8th and October 17th.”

A fan-favorite game that has a 90-rating among Steam users is now free via Epic Games Store. Per usual, once downloaded, the free Epic Games Store game in question is free to keep. The only requirement PC gamers need to keep in mind is the window of opportunity. The free download is only available on EGS until October 17, also known as next Thursday. After this, it will be replaced with a new free offering. This is the only requirement though, other than an Epic Games Store account, which costs nothing. 

The game in question was released back in 2022 via developer Gummy Cat and publisher Armor Games Studios. And according to Steam user reviews, it is pretty good. To date, it has amassed 3,878 user reviews, 90 percent of which are positive, giving the game a “Very Positive” rating, the second highest rating a game can earn on Steam. 

Those who haven’t connected the dots yet, the game is Bear and Breakfast, which normally runs at $19.99 on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Below, those interested can read more about it, courtesy of an official product description, and check out an official trailer for it as well. 

“Bear and Breakfast is a laid-back management adventure game where you play as a well-meaning bear trying to run a B+B in the woods,” reads an official blurb about the game. “Hank and his friends find an abandoned shack and, equipped with their teenage ingenuity, turn it into a money-making bed and breakfast scheme for unsuspecting tourists. As your business expands so do the mysteries of the forest, and Hank soon finds himself uncovering a plot deeper than the wilderness itself.”

Those who decide to check out Bear and Breakfast now that it is free on the Epic Games Store should expect to dump about 20 to 25 hours into the game. Meanwhile, completionists will need to tack on about 10-15 more to this figure. 

It is worth noting that Bear and Breakfast is “Verified” on the Steam Deck. Obviously, this does not pertain to the Epic Games Store version, but any PC gamer who wants to play it on-the-go or laying in-bed can, but will need the Steam version of the game.

Developer NCSoft and publisher Amazon Games has released the first Throne and Liberty update since the new free-to-play MMORPG released this week via PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. In addition to releasing the update, the pair have also provided the patch notes, revealing and detailing everything the update does. 

For the release of the update, servers went down for six hours, but this period of the game being down should end at 6:30 a.m. EST, which means it servers should be back up by the time you are reading this. What the file size of the update is though, we don’t know. This information was not included in the patch notes. 

Unfortunately, while notably the first update, there isn’t much notable about the update. The aforementioned duo highlight bug fixes in the UI and some other changes to the settings, but nothing major. This includes no new content.

Right at the end of September, Xbox Game Pass has bled nine games across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. And some of these nine Xbox Game Pass games are notable. In fact, one is no doubt one of the best games available via the subscription service. Meanwhile, a popular survival game and a popular AAA game are also now gone. 

For those out of the loop, the following nine games have left Xbox Game Pass: Gotham Knights, Let’s Build a Zoo, Loop Hero, My Time At Portia, PAW Patrol Grand Prix, Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season, The Walking Dead: Season Two, and Valheim. Some of this is obviously filler, but there are some notable games.

Gotham Knights is obviously a notable departure. That said, while a AAA game that has sold well, it wasn’t received that well. Valheim was ultra popular at one point, but not as much in 2024. Meanwhile, Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy certainly has some nostalgia. The best game here though is no doubt The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season, which as Wikipedia notes, is often considered a pioneer in the space and one of the best of all time. The second season doesn’t have the same reputation, but the first season can be enjoyed as a singular experience, and it is worth checking out. 

Now that these games are gone, the 20 percent discount made available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers is also gone. As for when or if any of these games will ever return to Xbox Game Pass, who knows. There is no rule against this happening, but it is not common. When it does, it is usually only the very popular or acclaimed games.

Swedish developer Coffee Stain Studios has announced a special Satisfactory event coming next month. The event — which is specifically being called a livestream event — is coming on October 8 and it is called The Spill, and it will feature not just the Steam hit but other games as well. What exactly Satisfactory players should expect, we don’t fully know, but “news” is expected to be shared, presumably on future updates and content for the Steam hit. 

“This is The Spill. This is a brand new type of livestream event that we have organized together with a couple of game studios in our neck of the woods to, sort of, spill some news about our games as we hang out the chat,” said Coffee Stain Studios of the new event. “It is sort of like the Avengers assemble scene from Endgame, but for game companies. 

Coffee Stain Studios continues: “This will be your opportunity to hear all about our game directly from the devs. We’ve never done anything like this before, so we have no idea how it will turn out, but we are really looking forward to this. We have put together quite the show. And who knows; if you really enjoy this format it may become a regular thing. 

Coffee Stain Studios confirms that in addition to its own game, Satisfactory, Valheim will be present, as well as Deep Rock Galactic, Songs of Conquest, Goat Simulator 3, and As We Descend. There will apparently be a few unannounced titles on top of this.

Coffee Stain Studios concludes by noting there will be developer Q&As, fireside chats, game trailers, as well as a few announcements. Right now, this is where the details end. Presumably Satisfactory will be the main focus of the show, but this is not specified, so perhaps it won’t be. It is safe to assume an event wouldn’t be hosted if there wasn’t something meaty for fans of Satisfactory though.

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 releases on October 25 via PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, it will do with a popular feature that was missing from the the game’s recent Beta. According to Treyarch — the developer of this year’s COD — the feature has been added by “popular demand.” To this end, it is a feature we’ve seen in some previous games, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Call of Duty: Cold War.

Those who played the Beta, whether the closed version or the open version, will know it was missing a kill counter on the HUD. This won’t be the case when the game launches though because Treyarch has gone ahead and added it. How exactly it has been implemented, remains to be seen. What is noted though is that it will work like it did in the past, meaning it will track your progress as you rack up kills with no deaths, which will in turn inform you how close you are to various streaks and medals. 

“By popular demand, we’ve added a kill counter on your HUD that will track your progress towards Kills-in-one-life Medals, including those who are chasing the coveted Nuclear Medal and Nuke Scorestreak,” said Treyarch

Right now, this is the extent Treyarch has communicated about a kill counter in Black Ops 6. If this changes, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. That said, this will probably be all it has to say between now and launch on the matter. 

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to release worldwide on October 25 via PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. When it releases, it will be available via standard purchase as well as via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox Game Pass subscribers on PC are “sick and tired” of getting the “inferior” versions of games compared to Steam. On PC, Xbox Game Pass represents considerable value, but for many PC gamers, it comes at the cost of not playing the games on Steam. Not only do many PC gamers prefer to play their games via Steam, but often PC games are updated quicker on Steam than the Microsoft Store. This means Xbox Game Pass subscribers on PC are often playing older versions of PC games compared to those on Steam. And this is starting to really frustrate subscribers. 

One of this month’s big Xbox Game Pass games, at least on PC, is Frostpunk 2. This is one of the marquee releases not just on Xbox Game Pass PC this month, but one of marquee releases on PC in general. This includes Steam. And those on Steam are enjoying updates for the game at a faster rather than those not on Steam. 

“Im sick and tired of Game Pass versions of games being inferior to steam on PC,” reads one of the top posts on the Xbox Game Pass Reddit page right now. “Just installed Frostpunk 2 today on my PC, and would you know it the Game Pass version of that game is an outdated build that doesn’t support DLSS 3.0 frame gen unlike the versions on other platforms.”

The post continues: “This wasn’t my first encounter with bad Game Pass versions. The same thing has happened with Ark Survival Ascended where frame gen is basically a must because of its abysmal performance. I even remember playing Quantum Break on Game Pass full of visual artifacts to the extent of it being barely playable.”

It is unclear why Microsoft is so slow to approve new updates in comparison to Steam, but it is. As a result, Xbox Game Pass PC subscribers are almost always playing an inferior version of any said game compared to Steam users. 

“This is 100% why I unsubscriubed from Xbox PC Game Pass,” reads one of the comments. “The Ascent was broken on Game Pass with no DLSS/ray tracing working it. It took so long to get it synced to the working Steam version.”

Another comment adds: “I have also experienced this problem with other games. I’ve recently played Still Wakes the Deep and the Game Pass version didn’t even support DLSS while it was supported on Steam. I think they patched it and it may support it now but I’m done with the game.”

Whether Microsoft will ever fix this, remains to be seen. In the meantime, it seems to be negatively impacting business for Xbox Game Pass on PC. Until it is fixed, PC gamers may want to rethink subscribing to Game Pass.

Monster-training games aren’t hard to come by, and even though Pokemon is pretty much at the top of that genre, Palworld gave Nintendo’s long-running franchise a bit of competition this year when it released on the PC and Xbox platforms and, more recently, for the PS5. It shouldn’t be too surprising then to see that some upcoming games are looking more at Palworld right now than they are at Pokemon when it comes to styles and features included in games like those. One of those games is Miraibo Go, and for Pokemon and Palworld players interested in trying out another competitor, developer Dreamcube just announced that Miraibo Go will release on October 10th.

The game itself is described as a “Pal-like” which is perhaps the first time that term has ever been used to sum up a game following the success of Palworld. And just as Pokemon fans were able to pretty quickly spot similarities between Nintendo’s franchise and Palworld, particularly when it came to Pokemon vs. Pal comparisons, it’s not difficult to see how Miraibo Go is looking to capture the attention of Palworld players probably more so than the Pokemon community.

As the trailer above illustrates, Miraibo Go has monsters called “Miras” that players can tame and then use in battles or in constructing bases. You explore by running around a map in a more open-world environment and can tame these monsters by throwing some sort of capture sphere at them. While there are only so many monster designs to go around given how many Pokemon there are and the new Pals to contend with, too, it’s also pretty easy to see how closely some of these Miras mirror at least the general looks of Pokemon and Pals. There are also weapons involved, and while the gameplay trailer shows a character using a bow, we can clearly see that there are guns in Miraibo Go, too.

Unlike Palworld, Miraibo Go is coming to mobile platforms as well as the PC, so perhaps it’ll be able to appeal to a market in the former if its features and Miras hold up to scrutiny. Like many other mobile games, it’s running a series of pre-registration and referral rewards right now to incentivize people to cast their bid early. You can sign up for the game through the Miraibo Go site which, like the game itself, sure does look a whole lot like Palworld.

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company just recently announced that they’re officially suing Palworld and Pocketpair, so it’s an interesting time to see games like Miraibo Go release when some patents in particular appear to be taking issue with the usage of capture devices to tame monsters among other features. Miraibo Go will release regardless on October 10th, however, to add to an already busy month for new games.

A new datamining leak has revealed Mark 6 and Mark 7 armor coming to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in a future update. When exactly the armor will be added, remains to be seen, but the datamining leak confirms it is in development at Saber Interactive, and seemingly going to release sooner rather than later. 

As you would expect, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 players across PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X are excited to see the cosmetic content on the way, even if it was always a guarantee it would be added at some point. Whether it will be the whole armor sets or just helmets, remains to be seen, but it is presumably the former. 

For those unfamiliar with datamining leaks, they are leaks found in the game’s files. Specifically, dataminers have been digging through the files of the game’s latest update, which went live yesterday, when they uncovered what you see below. 

What else is coming to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in the future, remains to be seen, but players are currently expecting plenty of support given the popularity of the game. Not only is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 proving to be 2024’s sleeper hit, but it is arguably an outside contender for Game of the Year.

According to a well-known Rainbow Six leaker, a new Rainbow Six game is in development at Ubisoft. Whether it is a follow-up to Rainbow Six Siege, the return of a former Rainbow Six sub-series, or something entirely brand new, we don’t know. This information is unfortunately not disclosed. In fact, the rumor is light on details. That said, it will be music to the ears of Rainbow Six fans who have been itching for a new release in the series. 

In 2024, Rainbow Six is in a odd place. The latest release in the series, 2022’s Rainbow Six Extraction, was a commercial and critical dud. However, the Rainbow Six game before that, 2015’s Rainbow Six Siege, remains one of Ubisoft’s most successful games. And despite being nine years old, it remains relevant in 2024. But what is next for the series?

Well, if you thought Rainbow Six Extraction may scare Ubisoft away from the series, it doesn’t appear that is the case. According to a Rainbow Six leaker that goes by the alias “Shiiny77” on social media platform X, there is a new Rainbow Six game in development. The leaker also teases the name noting the game is called, “Rainbow Six A***”

Why the full name of the game isn’t disclosed, we don’t know, but it appears to be a four-letter word that starts with the letter A. Reasonable guesses so far include: Atom, AWOL, Army, Aces, Axis, Apex, Ares, and Aero. Whether any of these guesses are right, we don’t know, but these are the ones that stick out. 

Of course, take this tease with a grain of salt. It is not entirely clear just how reliable this source is. Further, even if this information is accurate, it is also subject to change that could render it inaccurate over time. As for Ubisoft, it has not commented on this rumor in any capacity. We don’t suspect this to change for a variety of reasons, but if it does comment, regardless of whether or not it is salient, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has received numerous criticisms since its full unveiling a few months ago. These criticisms have taken aim at the game’s new art style, its writing, its character design, it abandoning player world states, and generally how unfamiliar it feels in comparison to its legacy. It has also been engulfed by the ongoing culture war in gaming. To this end, parts of the Internet and social media have castigated the BioWare RPG as “woke” and adjacent critiques, citing various aspects of the game ranging from its character creator to its tone. Much of this has dominated the conversation around the October-bound PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S game.

Recently, David Gaider, one of the creators of Dragon Age, weighed in on the discussion. Gaider hasn’t been with BioWare since 2016, but there also hasn’t been a Dragon Age game since then. In other words, this is the first Dragon Age free from his direct influence. Previously, he served as the series’ lead writer. 

Taking to social media platform, Bluesky, Gaider gave his take specifically on criticism that the series has “suddenly gone woke,” saying those who think that are “an idiot.” 

“Apparently the usual suspects are upset at how ‘woke’ the new Dragon Age is, an apparently sudden and unexpected development in the series. F*****g tourists,” said Gaider. 

In the comments of this post, Gaider expanded: “I’m simply saying that, if your criticism is that it’s ‘suddenly gone woke’, like this isn’t consistent with everything in the series before it, you’re an idiot. Then again, ‘woke’ seems to expand its meaning daily.

This is not the first time Gaider has weighed in on the game. Previously, he weighed in on BioWare’s decision to make every companion romanceable to player characters, something he was not a fan of. Beyond this, Gaider hasn’t said much about the new Dragon Age game, which is set to release on October 31 via the aforementioned platforms.

A new Resident Evil 9 leak has been making the rounds, but it raises some serious red flags. To date, there have been countless rumors about the next Resident Evil game, tentatively dubbed Resident Evil 9 by many of these rumors and based on the expectation of it being the next mainline installment in the Capcom series. While there have been a lot of rumors however, no media of the game has leaked.  A new post on 4chan has been garnering attention because it purports to leak our very first look at the unannounced Resident Evil game. However, it doesn’t quite pass the sniff test. 

According to the leak, the game is called Resident Evil Extinction. The name reveal is then bolstered by a metric ton of details about the game, including story and gameplay tidbits. This is the first red flag. A whole wall of text with intricate details is usually a sign of something being fake, purely because this not how game leaks work. It is next to impossible to come across that many details on a secretive project. It is not impossible, as it does happen, but when it does it is usually not anonymous sources on 4chan or Reddit who are sitting on the jackpot. In short, we’ve seen way more fake leaks of this variety on 4chan than we have real ones. Examples of the latter do exist though, so this alone is not enough to write off the leak. 

What is more damming is the leaked media in question, which simply looks like a doctored image featuring Resident Evil 4 assets, including Leon, but now he has a beard. Again, there is nothing about the image that definitively confirms it is a fake, but everything about sure does look fake. That said, we will let you come to your conclusions by checking it out for yourself. 

If the leak is accurate, it will star a new protagonist called Adrian Clark. Again, this is not a write off because Capcom surprised Resident Evil fans with a brand new protagonist in Resident Evil 7. However, it is more common for it to use its already established characters than introduce a new one. 

Speaking of Capcom, it has yet to comment on this supposed leak in any capacity. We don’t suspect this to change, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. In the meantime, proceed with as many grains of salt you can find.

The Epic Games Store has a new free game as of today, September 26. As always, the free game download is available on EGS for exactly one week, which means until October 3 when it will be replaced with a new free offering. Once downloaded, Epic Games Store users are able to keep and play any free download as much or as little as they want, and this new free game is no exception. And judging by the game’s Steam user reviews, Epic Games Store users are in for a treat. 

The new free Epic Games Store game was released back in 2022 by developer Albune and publisher Armor Game Studios. On Metacritic the game has an 82, a very solid score, but according to user reviews, this may be lowballing the game. On Steam, the game has 450 user reviews, 97 percent of which are positive, giving the game a “Very Positive” rating on Steam. 

For those that have not connected the dots yet, the game is The Spirit and the Mouse, a narrative-driven action-adventure game that normally runs both Epic Games Store users and Steam users back $19.99.

“Bring kindness and light to the people of Sainte-et-Claire as Lila-a tiny mouse with a big heart,” reads an official elevator pitch of the game for any unfamiliar with it. “Explore a quaint French village, make electrifying new friends, and do good deeds for those in need in this lush narrative adventure game.”

Those that decide to check out The Spirit and the Mouse now that it is free with Epic Games Store for exactly one week should expect a fairly brisk adventure by video game standards. Those who decide to mainline the game should expect to sink about four hours into it. That said, to see all of the content the game has to offer, PC gamers will need about six hours with the adventure game.

The Forever Winter just launched on Steam and the Epic Games Store this week, and if it wasn’t on your radar before, you may want to consider keeping an eye on it. Since its release on Tuesday, the survival-horror shooter has already amassed over 12,000 concurrent players on Steam alone despite the game only being available in early access. What’s more, it’s also already gotten its first hotfix complete with a set of patch notes to address some of the issues The Forever Winter players have been voicing concerns about during the first day of play.

To be fair to those considering The Forever Winter, reviews are currently “Mixed” for the game on Steam. It’s the first game from developer Fun Dog Studios, a group composed of developers who previously worked on games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Doom Eternal, The Witcher 3, and more, and it seems like some players are having some trouble running it on even beefy machines. Many of the reviews — even those critical of the game — praise the concept overall, however, and just want to see the issues resolved so that they can enjoy it. 

For those still on the fence about The Forever Winter, you can check out a trailer for the game below alongside an overview of the scavenger missions you’ll embark on while dodging giant death machines.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t the Dragon Age game fans waited 10 years for. Some have been deeply invested in Dragon Age since 2009, when Dragon Age: Origins released. Everything you did in that game no longer matters though. Everything you did in its 2011 sequel, Dragon Age 2, also is no longer relevant. BioWare has confirmed that not a single decision made in either of these two games is being carried forward with Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Characters from these games, such as Morrigan, will be present but it will be irrelevant whether or not she performed The Dark Ritual and had a son with the soul of an old god. This is one of the biggest decisions in the series’ history and it has just been brushed aside like an irrelevant detail. 

Surely, all of the major decisions from Dragon Age: Inquisition are accounted for in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, right? After all it is essentially a continuation of that game. Nope, only three decisions are carrying forward: who you romanced, whether you disbanded the Inquisition or not, and whether you attempted to save or stop Solas. That’s it. Fans have been speculating for a literal decade about the implications of various other decisions in the game, like the Well of Sorrows and who drank from it, just for it to be wiped from their world state. Dragon Age fans have made hundreds of decisions, have been waiting over 10 years for BioWare to make good on certain narrative threads, all for the developer to press the reset button. It’s not just not going to make good on any of that content, such as the fate of the Hero of Ferelden, it is going to pretend like none of this content even exists. 

BioWare knew this decision was not going to be received well, which is why it kept it hidden for so long. Content creators, the press, and more have been gushing about the good parts of Dragon Age: The Veilguard for months. Some have been playing the game behind-the-scenes and offering their feedback for years before this. Yet, there has not been a single mention that BioWare was going to cleanse everyone’s world state; not because it didn’t matter, but because there was clearly instruction not to.

What Dragon Age fan waited 10 years just to have 99% of their world slate wipe cleaned? More than a decade of speculating about the fate of Hero of Ferelden, the fate of Hawke if left in the Fade, the implications of the Well of Sorrows, and so many other decisions and narrative threads all for it just to be snapped out of existence. 

Of course, it is a calculated risk by BioWare. It knew this decision would be contentious, but it clearly deemed the benefits of dumping world states — and the restrictions and complications they come with — as worth any potential blowback from hardcore fans, who will likely buy the game anyway. This gamble may pay off, but there is a variable not being accounted for. 

What makes BioWare relevant in 2024 is its past, and not its recent past. Its recent past — Anthem, Mass Effect: Andromeda, development hell — is why there are concerns about this game in the first place. BioWare is living on the spoils and nostalgia of its past. It should be tapping into this past, not washing it down the drain in favor of charting a new course. 

Dragon Age fans have been waiting for the next game in the series for 10 years. And to reward this wait, to reward the patience and anticipation of fans that have kept BioWare relevant, Dragon Age fans had to stomach a change in art direction that nobody asked for and everyone knows is a downgrade. Dragon Age: The Veilguard already looked unfamiliar, and now it is going to feel unfamiliar as well. Dragon Age: The Veilguard may still end up being a good game, maybe even a great game, but this is not the game any fan ever envisioned.

BioWare has confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will only account for three decisions players made in Dragon Age: Inquisition. The many other decisions will not be accounted for in any capacity. Meanwhile, not a single decision made in Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age 2 will be accounted for. While not an entirely surprising decision, this is a radical departure from how BioWare previously handled world states. To this end, players are essentially starting over from scratch with equal world states.

The three decisions Dragon Age: The Veilguard does account for are as follows: who your Inquisitor romanced, whether or not you disbanded the Inquisition, and whether or not you vowed to stop Solas or save him. That’s it. Major decisions in Dragon Age: Inquisition, such as whether or not your Inquisitor or Morrigan drank from the Well of Sorrows, are not accounted for. 

Meanwhile, this all but confirms the Hero of Ferelden and Hawke — the protagonists of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2, respectively — are not just not in the game, but not even going to get a meaningful cameo or mention. With the plot of Dragon Age: The Veilguard what it is, the Hero of Ferelden being MIA is a real immersion breaker and severely undermines the lore and narrative. 

BioWare wanting a clean slate makes sense, but its past is the only thing that makes it and its current products relevant. To toss almost all of it down the drain for increased flexibility is a bold call that could pay off with a better product on the other side of this all, but in the meantime it reads as a serious misread of why many are playing a Dragon Age game in 2024 in the first place. 

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to release worldwide on October 31 via the PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. The original Backyard Baseball is returning in the form of a new remaster that will launch in early October. A little more than a month ago, Playground Productions announced that it was working on a revival of the Backyard Sports franchise. The series, which was hugely popular for kids in the 90s and early 2000s, was comprised of a litany of titles that included Backyard Baseball, Backyard Football, Backyard Soccer, and numerous others. Now, the game that started it all, Backyard Baseball, is set to make a comeback and pave the way for the future of the franchise. 

Detailed in a press release, Playground Productions revealed that it has partnered with Mega Cat Studios for Backyard Baseball ’97. This new version of the first Backyard Baseball game has been fully remastered and will come to PC via Steam next month on October 10th at a cost of $9.99. In tandem with this announcement, an initial reveal trailer of Backyard Baseball ’97 has been released and can be viewed below. 

What’s surprising about this re-release of Backyard Baseball is that the game’s original source code was lost after its launch in 1997. As a result, the prospect of simply re-releasing or remastering the title has proven to be very difficult over the years. Playground Productions says that the team at Mega Cat “accomplished a near-impossible feat by hacking the original CD-ROM and developing new game builds to be compatible with current generation PCs.” Because of this, Backyard Baseball ’97 is currently only going to come to PC, but a release on other platforms down the road hasn’t been ruled out. 

Moving forward, Playground Productions has stressed that it’s still focused on the future of the Backyard Sports franchise, which suggests that completely new games are in the works. Other than this, though, Playground CEO Lindsay Barnett says that the company wants to still “honor the past by restoring the games that started it all”. With this in mind, it seems quite likely that remasters for Backyard Football, Backyard Soccer, Backyard Basketball, and others could also arrive in the months or years ahead.

The Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster — a remaster of the 2006 classic from Capcom — released last week via PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. And for the most part, the remaster is just a straight-forward update of the game that brings it closer to modernity and further away from the jank of the Xbox 360-era of gaming. Emphasis on “for the most part.” While the vast majority of the original content has been untouched, there are a few parts of the game that have gone through a modern filter. In the process, some of these parts have been tweaked or even removed.

The most prominent examples of this include removing the exposed underwear of some female characters, replacing Larry Chiang, changing Cheryl’s dress to make it less revealing, removing the erotica genre, and removing the “sexiest shot” scene.

As you would expect, these changes have received some negative attention and push back from parts of the Internet. That said, the changes, or at least some of them, aren’t very surprising. We’ve now seen quite a few remasters and remakes of games from a different era tone down or outright remove various content, usually of the more lewd and sexual variety. 

The video below doesn’t contain all of the changes, but it highlights the most prominent. There are more though, including several dialogue changes. 

“Man, they really did a number on this remaster. What a terrible tragedy to remaster, and just chop-up and strip-out whatever someone didn’t like. It’s fine to remaster it, but the intent is to keep the material the same,” writes on fan unhappy with the changes. “The erotic photo shoot was never meant to be disrespectful to women, it was to show how sleazy Kent was on top of everything else,” adds another fan. 

Capcom hasn’t said anything about these various changes, and it is unlikely it is going to budge on this position of silence. If it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. In the meantime, for more coverage on it, click here.

While the remake of Resident Evil 3 can be found on just about every single current platform, the same can’t be said for the version released back in 1999. Thankfully, that will be rectified this week, as Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is coming to PC via GOG on Wednesday, September 25th. The game will be offered for $9.99, or it can be obtained in a $24.99 bundle that also contains the first two games in the series. For those that never played the original Resident Evil trilogy, this would seem like the perfect opportunity to experience the roots of the franchise. 

For those that never played the game, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis puts players in the role of Jill Valentine, following her appearance in the first Resident Evil. The game marked the introduction of Nemesis, one of the most memorable villains to appear in the Resident Evil franchise. Despite the numbering, the game actually starts prior to the events in Resident Evil 2, but time passes, and eventually the two games start to take place concurrently. Resident Evil 3 isn’t held in quite the same regard as some other entries in the series, but there’s a lot to like about it, especially for those that enjoyed the first two games. 

Unfortunately, there’s still no word from Capcom about whether these games might eventually make their way to consoles, as well. Over the last few years, Capcom has increasingly made its back catalog easier to obtain through various compilations. We’ve seen it happen with Mega Man, Phoenix Wright, and even the company’s various fighting games. For some reason, the original Resident Evil games have not gotten the same treatment, despite frequent requests from fans. 

The arrival of the first three Resident Evil games on GOG was announced back in June. The three games are based on the Windows 95 versions, as opposed to those released on PlayStation, Dreamcast, and N64. From everything revealed thus far, it seems GOG was involved with the porting process. If that is the case, it might mean that there’s a timed exclusivity agreement in place, or that there are no plans to release the original trilogy elsewhere. Hopefully that’s not the case!

A new Bethesda game may tease the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6. It has been six years since Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI. Since then, it has shown nothing and said virtually nothing about the game. The main reason for this though was because until last summer Bethesda Game Studios was busy with Starfield. Now that Starfield is out, it has turned its attention to The Elder Scrolls 6, which means we should be hearing about it soon. Until then, it seems Bethesda may be doing some teasing. 

This year, Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls: Castles, a free-to-play mobile game not too dissimilar to Fallout Shelter. In it, you rule over your own castle, among other things. For your castle, there are two options: a Redguard style and what looks like a Breton style. This is interesting because previous teases and rumors have suggested the game will be set in Hammerfell and possibly High Rock as well.

To date, the most prominent tease was in an early Starfield trailer,. In it, a character can be seen flying in a ship, and etched into the side of the ship is a little drawing. In the trailer, it just looks like chipped paint, but if you zoom in it is a rough map of High Rock, Iliac Bay, and Hammerfell. 

Whether The Elder Scrolls: Castle is making a similar tease, or future-proofing for the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 or whether this is nothing, it is all adding up. At this point, The Elder Scrolls fans on Reddit and elsewhere are convinced the game is heading to Hammerfell, and probably High Rock as well. 

For those unfamiliar with Hammerfell and High Rock, the former is the home of the Redguard. A western province, it boarders Skyrim to the northeast, Cyrodiil to the east and southeast, and High Rock to the north. It features many biomes, but it is best known for the very rigid and desolate  Alik’r Desert. Meanwhile, High Rock is the home of the Bretons and only borders Hammerfell. Geographically, it is far less diverse, mostly consisting of forests and countrysides, as well as lots of coastline.

At this point, based on everything so far, it will be a complete surprise if The Elder Scrolls 6 is not set in Hammerfell. The question is whether this will be the only location or if other provinces, such as High Rock, will be introduced. The Elder Scrolls 6: Castles may just be suggesting it is the latter.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has a new update, but it is a brief one that is unlikely to satiate the need for Star Wars fans to know more about the game. What it does confirm is the project is still alive, something many have begun to doubt. For those that may have forgotten, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced back on September 9, 2021 for the PS5 and PC. At the time, it was in development at Aspyr Media. 

In August of 2022, it was then reported the game had shifted to a new developer. More specifically, Saber Interactive replaced Aspyr Media. According to Embracer Group, the parent company of both, this shift was done to “ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title.” At the time, it noted it did not expect the hand off to delay the game. 

Since then, there is been no meaningful update on the game. And we still don’t have that, but we do have an update. Again, the update doesn’t reveal anything of note, but it does confirm the project is still alive. 

The update specifically comes from Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits, who relayed word that the team is “focused on development,” and will share more “when the time is right.” 

“Right now, we are focused on development. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right,” said Willits while speaking to IGN. 

Unfortunately, not only is this update brief, but there is no word when a proper update will come. If the game is still with PlayStation, as in a PS5 console exclusive, then it will presumably come during a PlayStation State of Play. To this end, a new State of Play is rumored to happen soon, but it is unlikely this game will be present given the timelines of Saber Interactive’s other projects. It could though. It could also rear its head at The Game Awards this December. If we were betting on it though, we wouldn’t bet on seeing this game anytime this year.
