Christopher Nolan Wants to “Move On” From Oppenheimer

Nolan reveals he might want his next movie to be “not quite as bleak.”

Oppenheimer earned the honor of being one of the biggest films of 2023, capturing moviegoers’ attention on a massive scale. The film broke multiple records, both as part of the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon and as its own blockbuster, which has even come to the surprise of the film’s director and writer, Christopher Nolan. As a new interview with Nolan reveals, however, he has a unique perspective on the ongoing conversation around Oppenheimer.

“I definitelyโ€“ part of me wants to leave the story behind,” Nolan told Yahoo! Entertainment in a recent interview. “I mean, it’s a great privilege to be able to talk about a film that you’ve made that’s now going into the home and on 4k and Blu-ray and all the rest. It’s great to be able to sit here and talk to you about the success of the movie. That’s a huge privilege. But the subject matter is very dark. It’s nihilistic. And, yeah, there’s part of me that’s quite keen to move on and maybe do something, you know, not quite as bleak.”
